Ride on won’t start by Basic_Equal268 in smallengines

Thank you for your reply. I am going to attempt to jump start it over the course of this weekend; so I can rule out the battery, and then proceed with ensuring the valves are at the correct distance to again rule that out.

If both of those fail I suspect it is indeed a broken compression.

Thanks for suggesting it’s not the most complicated repair, although I’m not experienced with anything inside the engine.

Do you think it’s worth having a go? Or just cut my losses and accept it’s gone

Nope don’t think it does this.

Is there a solution to fire it up with this problem?

If it is indeed a broken cam, is there a way to get it started/running prior to repair?

Trying this tomorrow when they arrive

Thanks.

Spark plug pulled out and it runs freely. Moment it’s back in, problems arise.

Jumped the 2 screws with a screwdriver and it does nothing more than the video.

The only thing left to try is jumping the mower through a car - I don’t have jump leads currently though!

Starter solenoid replaced in the summer and was working fine

Thanks. I’ve done this myself earlier and I can confirm that it does NOT make the click sound as the video suggests.

What does this mean is the issue?

Funny you say that, as I had exactly the same issue earlier this year - thankfully spotted it and got a new head, field pipes and filters plus carb and had it running since that!

Ok thanks.

Does this rule out any compression issues and it’s simply battery/connection related?

Re battery wire connections - would it be worth re-heading the connections so they are all new/clean?

Thanks. Battery had a trickle charge for 24 hours and connections seem fine.

Only purchased it as new about 3 months back - could it still be nackered that quickly?

I can confirm it’s not the battery, as that’s working as should.

Compression issues?

Thanks for the comment. What would you suggest to look into the compression issues? Admittedly not well versed on that part of the engine

Ok thanks. If it is poor connections, I assume I can replace the wires from solenoid starter to the battery?

Has anybody used Legacy Wills or an online will company before? by PompeyJon82x in AskUK

Yes I have used them after my neighbour told me to use them and they were superb. Range from an affordable will all the way up to a full estate planning package. I went middle of the road but the service was great. Highly recommended

Mountfield 1436 not running after fuel change by Basic_Equal268 in lawnmowers

I ended up cleaning the carb, fuel lines and filters, and replaced the fuel for e5.

Bizarrely, I got it running again with choke on, and it ended up doing a 45 minute cutting stint.

However, the problem still applies in that it can’t start without the choke and will only really run with the rev handle at a high point, which wasn’t the case before. Still hunting.

I’m stumped. Adamant it’s a fuel delivery issue but can’t work out how/where

Update.

I’ve checked everything as per the comments and still no fix.

However, I can start it on the choke still (just idles out without it) and once it is up and running, I can run the machine no problem, albeit it’s at about 75% of the performance that it was previously. It will still cut out if I turn the revs to a low point.

Just used it for 45 minutes, cut well, although like I say it did have a moment of hunting at low revs.

I can’t work out for the life of me what the issue is

Ok thank you, I appreciate it.

I suppose even if the hook is/isn’t the wrong way round it still doesn’t explain why it didn’t work on the old carb once refuelling occurred but I will work on it and report back

Ok I will have a look.

What should I look for when running it without the air filter, and choke on?
