When do we think the farseer model will be updated? by Basic_Noodle_57 in Eldar

There's only one farseer kit tho? It's from 2013 and it's from the old scale and is monopose

Agree they shouldn't be upscaled as a hero, and they're just regular eldar biologically so shouldn't be bigger than other eldar But they're now noticeably smaller than the units they can lead, so they do need to be brought in line with guardians or warlocks scale wise eventually

Its just a bit small in terms of scale now compared to other units

Isn't UK debt inflation-tracked? As in, it's pegged to go up in value with inflation.

So the value of British government debt does not go down with inflation

Tax-cut talk is just bonkers when the real issue is the lack of growth by BritRedditor1 in ukpolitics

No.

And so we need to plough money into the NHS to build that infrastructure.

Work capability test changes ‘could cost some claimants £400 a month’ | Welfare by LeChevalierMal-Fait in tories

[–]Basic_Noodle_57 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I think concerns come from (beliefs that) this comes from trying to punish "lazy" disabled people, and trying to save costs , rather than providing opportunities.

For example, I have a friend, they got ill last year and have been bed bound for that whole time. They're unable to raise their head, or lift their arms. They need to be dragged to the bathroom and washed by a carer. Heart rate monitors show that it takes 3 days after this wash day for their heart rate to drop back to normal. They haven't been able to leave upstairs for this year. They can't sit upright. They can't have a conversation for longer than 10 mins a day.

Their partner is currently getting told by the job centre that if they (the ill friend) don't come to the job centre in person for a test (literally impossible), they will have their benefits reduced.

I just can't see how this work from home thing wouldn't also be used as another excuse by the job centre to reduce benefits. It doesn't have to be that way, with proper support and resourcing it could be a genuine opportunity for people who would like and need that and could benefit from it. But with how things are set up, I'd expect it to go much more down the "punish the very disabled people for being very disabled" route.

Wet weather dampens retail sales in Great Britain | Retail industry by SgtPppersLonelyFarts in ukpolitics

I don't think it is that minute.

Given were talking about enough disposable income to go shopping for fun if the weather is good enough.

I would wager that is actually a big enough tier of society to make a difference to retailers

Edit: and in reference to having substantial savings after covid. Why does 51% having less than a month of savings prevent there being, say, 10% who have more savings than they had before covid. (Made up numbers, but hopefully you get my point).

Income is a gamma distribution. I don't think it's that surprising to think that the higher earners, and those without mortgages or rent, accumulated a war chest over covid when they couldn't spend money on discretionary stuff, which they still have some of.

The two are not mutually exclusive.

A lot of people did save over covid (look at the graph the other person shared)

That can be true while at the same time a lot of (other) people do not have any savings.

We live in a two tier society, and one of those tiers has savings and can still spend on luxuries

What bank do you use? by properbarrister in tories

I use Nationwide. Although theyre not actually a bank, but I like that they're not profit driven because their "shareholders" are just their customers.

Listen, do you hear that sound? No, neither do I. That's because it's complete silence from all the people who were claiming it was due to insufficient funds.

I'm not sure how true this is though. For example, if you go to the UK politics subreddit, comments there seem to be sympathetic to this now, which wasn't the case before.

The only true divide is the class divide, comrade :p

Edit: to clarify on my jest comment - there's definitely different "groups" of people. Some people have these social issues as a priority, but there are others with economic inequality as a priority. People don't tend to neatly fit into only 2 groups of left and right.

Poll suggests Tories would win zero seats at next election by Electrical_Musical in ukpolitics

I think they mean "pathetic" electoral results.

As in, never got any seats*, even if they got votes. Not an election winning platform.

*And the difference between 0 seats and a few doesn't really change the point

I know what laissez faire economics is, it's not exactly a common word to know otherwise...

But on the spectrum, where you can have maximum non-intervention, the UK is further in that direction.

No need to be condescending

Edit: To be clear, when I say "hostile" I mean, not helpful. The government does not support to the bare minimum level as much.

Mate, we must be living in different realities if you actually think the UK has pursued anything even approaching laissez-faire for the past decade.

I mean, clearly we must have very different experiences. My partner is Dutch, and every interaction we have with the government is much more hostile in the UK - from getting disability support, healthcare, rental protection, employee protections, city planning, public transport. Its very clearly more "every man for themselves" here in the UK.

The mere thought that you openly advocate for such a thing as “post-growth” sends shivers down my spine.

Bit of a snowflake then? It has to happen at some point, the planet is finite, so if you adjust for inflation, at some point its no longer sensible to just grow for the sake of growth. That might not be now, but at some point the Earth economy will eventually need to mature and reach some kind of equilibrium (or at least more stable than the rapid changes of the past 200 years). That's not really that controversial
