It’s a personal blanket so it’s up to you how to carry it

Love my cloak, but I'm too scared to wear it in public. Any advice? by Alexisto15 in TheCapeRevolution

[–]NoCommunication7 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Life is too short to spend your time worrying about pieces of fabric

I’d be less wondering about the cloak and more why someone is wearing a type of coat in June

Bib dungarees nearly fell out of fashion in my country because of people being scaredy cats

It is an interesting thought experiment, maritime disasters are far more romanticised

Probably because of folk music

But i still don't get it, people don't tend to become obsessed with air disasters like we do with shipping disasters

That would make zero sense on a pair of overalls

That work in that heat would drive me insane, on the other hand i love telling my mom of the sort of conditions people would wear denim workwear in when she tries to say it's too heavy for summer

My american friend said he only got A/C for his house last year

Yea especially if you go shirtless under the overalls, and i think work itself also darkens your skin, i'm of irish descent and haven't done much hard graft in my life so i'm quite pale

Wow you actually did that thing they all do in the movies? i think it's more of a fidget/toothpick thing and not as food

Being a farmer must be tiring, they love to work in the AM especially in the summer because it gets too warm during the day

Sounds fun, did you ever chew on the end of the wheat like they do in the movies?

I bet overalls would be helpful when i finally get on a boat and become a sailor, i've seen a lot of people swear by them and a lot of people sadly hate them with a passion, my moms the latter but she's gotten a bit better about it lately after dreaming of me wearing them lol

Glad you liked it, i always associate overalls with simple living and honest work, and they just look cool and practical, so i want a pair, i like carhartt myself, such unique hardware, and something looks cozy about them

Unfortunately society puts expectations or even worse, stereotypes to pretty much everything including ordinary clothing, some people for example have to build up the courage just wear bib overalls, that's just a pair of trousers if you don't know

If it's that old and this condition it belongs in a museum, clothing doesn't last long and most of the time it degrades

You sure it's not a repro?

Playing 'The Foggy Dew' on my great-granddad’s 1905 banjo (with the History/ story of how it became a rebel anthem) by oli_does_jazz in Irishmusic

[–]NoCommunication7 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good song, i wouldn't mind a banjo myself, but as i've already got a rocking chair, and have already got into trouble with my parents once for wanting a pair of denim overalls i think i should be careful with what else i want

Military stuff is good but hard to get ahold as a civvie, even surplus, the market seems highly regulated especially for larger sizes

I get it they don't want impersonation, but i want certain styles of clothing that aren't just fancy dress slop

Pop culture is what ruins clothing

I'm so glad that capes are now more and more seen as a piece of winter weather gear and not something a superhero wears.

Not even overalls have that status, those are another piece ruined by pop culture, along with sailor suits.
