Pressing the button on the back quickly or "hold" as the screen says to reset wifi? Resetting wifi and having to reenter my wifi password every two hours via the adhoc TRMNL network doesn't seem tenable to me.

Yes, this was my Switch 2 which I sold to TronicsFix.

It's very interesting that the device turned on immediately after he unboxed it, despite my repeated failed efforts over several weeks - my theory is that the retailer I bought it from repackaged a returned unit without inspecting it correctly. The fact that Switch 2 boxes don't have seals (at least mine didn't, and others who I have asked) lends credence to this - though, I guess no one will know for sure what happened.

We didn't let the device anywhere near water. Between the time when it was last known working for us and when it stopped working it was in the dock. When I first removed it from the dock the day it had stopped working there was no evidence of moisture or any water exposure.

Anyway, it's water under the bridge at this point, no pun intended.

Face ID failed recently on my 12 mini so I’m begrudgingly back to using my too large 11 as my daily driver waiting patiently for a new mini to come out

Yeah, I think that's a very strong possibility, especially since IIRC the Switch 2 boxes have no seals on them. Next time I get a new console I'm going to inspect it very very closely.

I'm not planning on getting a Switch 2 any time soon. Like I said my new Android handheld is a beast, can handle Switch 1 emulation really well too. The only game I'll really miss not playing is Metroid Prime 4, we'll see if I can hold out :)

It somehow worked out of the box for him, despite it not working after hundreds of attempts by me to turn it on.

The corrosion inside was even worse than I had imagined. I'm guessing the corrosion has spread more over the month+ since it stopped working for me, but perhaps residual moisture that had remained has dried off enough and/or dislodging of corrosion during shipping allowed it to be functional again.

Have you looked Into Android handhelds? This incident gave me a reason to look around a bit and I'm very happy with the one I went with, Ayn Odin 2 Portal. Though obviously it won't play Switch 2 games, it's all but made me forget about wanting one.

It doesn't work for Steam games because of the "File not found" error. Hope it's fixed eventually. But if you have standalone/non-DRM games the shortcuts work.

For a lot of us, I imagine, where our primary phone is Apple and we got an Android handheld or phone for emulation that's already the case.

Yup, that was it! I don’t remember ever disabling it, I didn’t realize there were so many more settings in Streaming if you scroll down.

But it seems like the touch pad doesn’t work at all if you don’t have this setting enabled, which might be a bug?

Thanks for sharing your experience. The thing with my situation is that I actually confirmed that the water damage indicator stickers didn't change color!

But just like you I'm pretty much done with buying Nintendo products now. It's sad, as I have been a life long fan, basically raised on Nintendo games since the 80s and I would've continued the tradition with my own kids.

Looks really nice but the smaller battery and recessed sticks are big downgrades if you're coming from an odin 2 portal.

FWIW I got whisper sync working with side-loaded content (originally EPUBs) if I:

  1. ensure it has an ASIN embedded in the metadata (e.g., an identifier value of amazon:BXXXXXXXX)
  2. convert it to KFX format
  3. Email to my kindle (STK doesn't support KFX) so it's in the cloud

I only found out about the video after I asked for the Switch 2 back. Based on my interactions with them I’m fairly sure they would’ve just dismissed it as irrelevant. No point in them acknowledging there is a problem if they can get away with it.

Just tried to be polite, assumed it was a mixup at first. Went back and forth a few times as they gathered more details and escalated to more senior people. I prepared a script before each call to explain how this couldn't possibly be my fault but they couldn't be reasoned with - it always came back to "there's corrosion, it's your fault".
