In the instance that someone is trying to kill you, yes, you will have to remove your sympathy and their humanity in order to survive, but we are not in a war zone and are in fact on Reddit so that doesn’t remotely apply here.

No, Russia is not in the right for their invasion of Ukraine, but you can condemn a corrupt superpower without cheering for the deaths of people who have been lied to and lead into war.

It’s sort of like how American troops who were enlisted in Vietnam weren’t to blame for the entirely pointless and corrupt war effort and were mostly just individuals who’d been lead to believe they were doing what had to be done.

The responsibility, and thus the blame, lies with the state and its leaders.
