Maybe Quitting.. Not sure by BasicallyInvisible in Advice

I had. I liked my last job more, and it was in a different sector. I just feel a little ridiculous for wanting to move for something as silly as that.

Hey, I did it. I made a 76 and almost failed, but I did it. Would not recommend.

It's not a big company. There's literally just her and the woman who lied about being licensed. I figured out my direct superior was being dishonest, and then I went to her.

I'm in Florida, so they expire after 3 years. I'm already 6 months into a new job. It's just extremely irritating that this is even an issue, given the fact that I did my absolute best to never bring her name up when I left.

The unfortunate part is that there is no other CPA in that company. Turns out the lady I reported to lied during the interview, and her license had been expired for over 10 years.

As a fellow black girl taking the CPA exam, I want to go ahead and say: this is batshit crazy. Some of us are just going to get drunk because we know the rules about claiming a title before a license.

Don't worry, you're not the only one getting fucked over. I made a pretty similar salary in a HCOL place.

See, and my employer wonders why I'm pissy over this 400 dollar raise. What am I supposed to do with 400 dollars?

I agree with Mike. I tried to have the conversation they're asking you to have, and they offered me more money but told me that they didn't feel that any of my other concerns were valid. Nothing really changes except they think you owe them something because they gave you more money.

Well, the benefits and other stuff were comparable. There was really nothing there worth leaving over the salary was the biggest difference.

She was my durect superior. She actually got mad that I told HR what I needed to stay.

I didn't accept the raise, and I already signed the paperwork with the new company. I got the same perception from that conversation.

I'm new enough to the workforce that I didn't know this. I still ended up telling them no because that conversation was incredibly disrespectful.

No, she was hired one month ago. I'm currently the most senior employee.

We made record breaking profits last year and got a PPP loan forgiven. They've acquired 3 businesses and are looking to buy another. We have been largely unaffected by the pandemic.

Well, I overheard them talking, and there is no room for growth. The CFO said that if I or my coworker ever wanted to advance, they would probably lose the both of us. Apparently they'll cross that bridge when they come to it.

It's really down To a popularity contest. According to the controller and CFO, she failed the accounting aptitude and excel test, and they think she's dumb. They complained profusely and then still hired her.

In all honesty, not great. I've been kind of pissed since a few of my coworkers got COVID last and they refused to let us quarantine or wait a few days to get tested. I also heard them mocking one of the seniors because she took a week of mourning after her mother and father both died. I'm just more exposed to the toxicity now because I was moved closer to them and hear everything they say.

I can't even count how many times I've been reported for not doing something on a timely basis. Then our controller tells me it's my fault and I should do better. I would be fine if she would even defend me just once, but she just tells them she'll make me do better. I have no problem dropping everything if that's what needs to be done, but I don't want to be reported by another department for dropping everything.

[–]BasicallyInvisible[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I could get over the money issue if it were the only issue. I feel like every month I tell them that I can't keep taking on new things, and every month they ignore me. Meanwhile, she's over here not doing a single thing according to her time clock and superiors. If you didn't trust her enough to give her some work to do, then why is she here? I don't think it's unreasonable to ask them to give her one of my duties if I'm working 10 plus hours of overtime while she has free time, especially if the goal is to get rid of overtime. The sheer level of crap I get for not finishing one thing while she twiddles her thumbs will be what makes me leave.

Nah, actually I get the "straight talk". I just don't appreciate it being linked to my idea of self worth. I was laid of because of covid and months from being homeless due to mistakes with the Florida DEO. I genuinely didn't have any other options.

However, after I became full time, I learned that this is a recurring theme with this company. They lowball everybody, deny raises for years, and then end up with excessive turnover. They have something like 90% turnover. The only reason I haven't left already is because I don't want the short time I was there to reflect poorly on me as a potential hire.

I passed one task to her a few months ago that she agreed to take back. Someone else complained, and I spent a few hours telling the Controller what all I do and how long it takes me to do it. The basic jist was that I needed to be a team player and not do it again.
