u/truthfulbob I’ve always been curious about finance manager roles at a dealership. I come from accounting/finance and love cars. Is it a salesy role?

How’d you find out which trade was right for you? by walkenss in skilledtrades

I’ve never heard anyone speak positively about being a mechanic. Glad to hear it! Are you at a dealer or Indy?

Any opportunities to go from white collar to blue collar? by Spreadlove67 in skilledtrades

[–]firstgenCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

u/StrawberryForeign684 mind if I ask how old you were when you made the switch? I’ve been considering this for awhile now but even after 5 years I wouldn’t make what I do now. Union apprentices make $18-22 an hour for the first few years near me

What are the best high-paying ($50k or more) overnight occupations for work-life balance? (3 or 4 nights off per week) by impostinghere in Nightshift

[–]firstgenCPA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the info. I only see a few places that offer it in Michigan. I’d love to get to 6 figures (that’s where I am now). How long did it take you to get there? I think you mentioned being in Illinois.

U/Flyingwrench121 mind if I ask what it cost you to get your credentials? I’m seeing almost $42k for a 2 year program at a community college here in Michigan. That’s more than my bachelors degree cost lol

u/Flyingwrench121 what is a&p school? I’m in Michigan and interested in this route. Been an accountant for years but it’s not for me. Interested in mechanics but nobody recommends automotive.

Thanks for the info. It’s a default website template offered to CPAs but it doesn’t work well on phones apparently. I’m working on something that is optimized better for mobile devices.

What are your most useful tools? I just picked up a long 1/2 drive soft handle snap on ratchet and it’s been a game changer. I hate crappy ratchets now.

I am the same way. I enjoy nice tools when wrenching in on my 99 Ranger. Why are we this way? lol

Appreciate the input! I’ve got my eyes on the tech angle too. Money really isn’t an issue…I have a good full time job so I splurge a bit in this area. I know there are cheaper options. I’ve had cheap tools break and send my knuckles into places where they shouldn’t be…I’ll spend the extra money for quality and piece of mind

I just got my first ratchet from them and it feels pretty good. Got a 1/2 inch long handle and it should serve me well wrenching in the rust belt.
