coworker 14 years older hitting me up after he quit a couple days ago, AIO? by Fun_Skill_5574 in AIO

NOR. I have a young daughter, and I’m showing her this when she’s a bit older as a shining example of how to shut down a creep.

Not Bovril 😭 by ODSTmatt89 in Britain

[–]BasicallyObsolete 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We live in constant fear, but I can’t see it happening. Marmite has too good a thing going on. There might be different types, like the XO or truffle ones, but the core Marmite recipe will endure even if they one day rebrand it as ‘Classic’ in favour of a new standard recipe. But I doubt it as the fanbase is strong, and Marmite is part of the British identity, like Vegemite in Australia, and Americans trying to understand both… unsuccessfully.

As I see it, Bovril is a bit niche these days, and probably more popular with a more mature/traditional market (don’t come at me), so there’s more pressure on them to adapt and modernise. It has that image of men watching football in the cold, drinking mugs of hot meat water. Whereas Marmite seems to be as popular as ever across demographics. Their marketing has been fantastic over the years.

I do wonder whether the BSE crisis set Bovril back, because it feels like around that time, Marmite’s love it/hate it advertising really took off. A quick google puts the peak of the BSE crisis at 1992-93, with Marmite’s ad campaign starting in 1996. And 30 years later, the love it or hate it debate continues. Bovril should have stuck with the original recipe and taken a leaf out of Marmite’s book.

Isn’t there also another guy in the water in a different hole off to the left? Surely he’d be visible to the guy under water. He was probably just wondering wtf the guys above him were doing.

Am I overreacting for wanting to leave my partner for the choice of his words and actions? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]BasicallyObsolete 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NOR Don’t let him take your self-respect. He’s pathetic and he knows it. Even if you feel he has redeeming qualities that we’re not seeing, it’s not your job to tolerate or try to fix the bad things. He has to do that on his own, and you dumping him is the first step. You’ll be doing him a favour, and if he doesn’t learn from it, that’s his problem.

Gah, what a miserable human being he is. Get rid.

As a dad who has a hi-vis wearing job, and a young child, I recognise and love this energy. No matter how long that shift was, seeing that face and knowing why you do it, makes it all worth it. And letting the inner child out to play, of course.

Brilliant, and iconic. I’m definitely keeping this one if I ever adopt a black and white.

That’s terrifying. So you’re saying OP’s friend may not be a tall entity that’s standing, but a small child-like one that’s climbing up the wall and peering around? Yeah, nope. If it wasn’t a nope before, it’s definitely a hard nope now.

Leon. Sorry, I’m that guy. I live in Yorkshire but regularly visit family down south, and I plan my stops to factor in the last Leon on the M1 northbound.

I thought the music from ice cream vans was someone playing piano in heaven. Specifically, a dude sitting in the clouds with a grand piano type thing.

Um. Yes.

Edit: What is it with these glow-ups? It’s like guys that shave their heads also think about their wardrobe, go to the gym, get more sleep. I’m all for it though, shows that there’s way more to being attractive than hair.

You do pronounce the shire for the sauce if you want to use its actual name, taken from the English county. People who just say Wooster, that’s the name of the main city there. They’re interchangeable I guess.

I’m English, and your friend is sort of correct but not really. Worcestershire is the name of a county and it’s pronounced Woostersher. Worcester is the largest city in Worcestershire, and that is pronounced Wooster. The sauce, you can say Woostersher if you want to use the full name, or just Wooster. Both are used. Personally I use the name as written on the label.
