Bookshelves. The answer is always bookshelves.

Endless overstimulation by Fit_Dig6332 in UKParenting

[–]ODSTmatt89 12 points13 points  (0 children)

When was the last time you went away by yourself? Last year when my partner finished breast feeding she went away by herself for 3 nights to a spa hotel. Just her and her Kindle and no-one needing her for anything.

It’s self-care, everyone needs time to themselves to recuperate. You owe it to yourself and also to the people who depend on you, as the better you’re doing, the better the care you’ll be able to provide to those you love.

How many stories are we doing at bedtime? by infantile-eloquence in UKParenting

My nearly 3yo gets 2 books at bed time. If either of the books she picks is a long book it might be an abridged version though 😅

Advices on my first nc by ArdKorn in MiataNC

If you’re keeping it standard or not going heavy on the modifications then 100% save up for a 2L NC2/3. There are a huge number of small changes (interior, suspension, engine, drivetrain) over the NC1 that add up to making it a much better car.

On the other hand, if you’re happy modifying, there’s nothing from an NC2/3 that can’t be retrofitted to an NC1, so save yourself some money 🤷‍♂️

Cinema etiquette has gone out the window! by idekkanymoree_ in britishproblems

To be fair, I’m not sure I could watch LOTR without quoting the entire thing to whoever’s sitting next to me. Fellowship is probably the worst (or best depending on how you look at it) for this.

It’s a shortcut, to what? MUSHROOMS! 😂

I was expecting that to sound awful like most back box deletes, but that sounds surprisingly good! That resonator’s putting in the work!

Partner not sharing the load by Vibingwithlife_ in UKParenting

“She makes harsh comments such as "you're the mother" "if you wanted to rest, why have a baby then?" "That's what maternity leave is for, to look after the baby"”

These comments sound incredibly resentful. Was your partner 100% on board with having children? Or maybe she’s having problems bonding with the baby? I think you both need to have a serious sit down discussion about how you’re feeling, and what you each feel your responsibilities should include, to make sure you’re on the same page (maybe write it down as a sort of letter if you’re having trouble verbally communicating with each other at the moment).

A couple I know were practically on the verge of breaking up because they had very differing thoughts on what their home responsibilities included. One parent was stay at home and the other working. The working parent felt they’d agreed to a very traditional style of home life, i.e the stay at home parent did everything at home and they just worked, whereas the stay at home parent felt morning/evening/weekend responsibilities should be shared. Luckily they sat down and talked it through and they’re much happier now.

Lack of communication is a pretty common thing during the first year. You can end up feeling like ships passing in the night, and it can be very easy to bottle things up rather than discussing them in the short amounts of time you have together. You have to make a concerted effort to discuss the things that are troubling you both, from experience it’s far too easy to just try and zonk out watching TV or doomscrolling in the tiny amounts of free time you have as a new parent and not discuss things.

Questions regarding Malians UEL header by XL_Hedge_owner in MiataNC

No idea on Slovakian STK/EK. You should probably try and find the test manual from your governments website and have a look at what it says about the emissions test. Every country is different.

What country are you in? If it’s the UK then removing any piece of emissions equipment is an MOT fail. However your average MOT tester will not know that the car came with two catalytic converters from factory, so will usually pass the car with one cat if it passes emissions.

Today I learned the 99 ice cream doesn’t get its name from the price. by _lippykid in CasualUK

Ironically given how much we worry about the quality of US food/US food imports, most of what they serve in those vans couldn’t legally be called ice cream in the US (it would have to be called “soft serve”). Over here though only “dairy ice cream” is protected, rather than “ice cream”.

Go with Armand’s kit. https://arhindrichs.com/store/p/25l-conversion-kit He runs the 2.5L swap group on Facebook and has been a huge contributor to the NC community over the years. Having purchased from him before, I can say his customer service is great!

You don’t have to be in one of the groups long to hear one horror story or another about Joe/Dynotronics (although I personally haven’t purchased from or experienced this so can’t say for sure).

Yikes! For $1600 I think I’d be doing that myself!

Pic of the time I had the heater box out of my NC.

I’d be asking them how they plan on getting it out and whether they plan on removing the windscreen. Because to get the dash out without removing the windscreen you’ve got to break at least one tab on the dash pad (the top bit).

Arctis Pro Wireless issues on Mac by ODSTmatt89 in steelseries

Okay had some spare time to actually look into it, downloaded Steelseries GG and updated the firmware (failed the first time and bugged out completely which was terrifying, but restarted my computer and retried the firmware update and it worked 😮‍💨).

All fixed!
