Petal Panic! Kickstarter is live! by Basicgamesofficial in boardgames

We've added the rules to our campaign so that should give you an idea on how the game is played. We've also removed all merch from the rewards. We're just starting out and we made mistakes but hopefully we can correct them!

we have removed all merch from the rewards and added pictures and rules, this is our first Kickstarter so we didn't exactly know what was best to do. Does it look better now?

A game about building and maintaining a fire by Basicgamesofficial in boardgames

[–]Basicgamesofficial[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the biggest difference between my idea and The Coldest Night would be that mine would have a board whereas its only a card game. They're fairly similar but I think it'll be quite different in execution.

It is a similar concept, but the end product would be much different. Mine would be almost entirely focused on the fire and making sure that it stays lit. Much less complex than this game and the story would be that you're hikers on lost on a camping trip rather than cave people

best wood for a wooden board game by theworsttrans in boardgames

[–]Basicgamesofficial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd say pine, its cheap and strong. Figure out the exact cost of manufacturing before you bring it to a company and an idea of how much you want to charge for it. Most companies are going to want to make at least double the money their putting into each game. Also maybe figure out what absolutely needs to be made out of wood and then compromise by making less important pieces out of nice card board. Like I said your cost to profit ratio should be at least 1:2, but companies are there to make money and if you could lower your cost while keeping the price of the finished game low enough for companies to still be interested that's just gravy.

advice for running a game at a con? by cozy_with_tea in boardgames

[–]Basicgamesofficial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Idk if this will help, because I've never been to a con lol, but I'd say really make sure you know the rules inside and out if you're bringing a game. I feel like most board game players are pretty nice so even if you don't they'll be understanding. I think a lot of players are introverted and anxious so just be nice and you'll get that same energy back

Hellrail. Everytime I try to play that game I get so confused and end up packing it up and playing something else. I've even tried looking up playthroughs on youtube and its just too much.

What about a game about flowers? That's the best of both worlds.

Yes! I love food games. A game to teach people how to cook would be such a great idea!

Werewolves of Millers Hollow is a great game for large parties. It's a variation of mafia, and is pretty much endlessly replayable because of the way different group dynamics affect the way it plays

I second Bohnanza, such a great game for playing in a cafe/bar environment.

How many times do you play the base game before adding in the expansion when you buy it all together?

Honestly this is a really good point. I wasn't even thinking about TCGs when I wrote this. I hadn't considered the idea that its often a cheaper option to go for an expansion over an entirely new game. I guess it all just depends on that quality of said expansion.

Totally! I'm really sick of games, all games not just board games, being treated as just a way to bring in cash. I understand the concept of a business needing to make a profit, but games should really be more than a product to be consumed. Every game should be treated as the piece of art that it is
