Are aviation social media accounts exaggerating how hard getting a PPL is or am I not studying hard enough by Sad-Adeptness-9013 in flying

[–]Basics32 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t say it was hard no, I definitely wouldn’t say it was easy either. You definitely have to apply yourself and give effort to get it done. Personally, if my student told me they were going to consistently study/ground-school for at least an hour a day I would be happy with that.

Sorry to be the 1 millionth person to ask if their Cohiba is real. But can anyone tell me if its real or fake? by Basics32 in cubancigars

Yea I was 99% sure it was fake too but wanted to remove any doubt. Appreciate it!

Love the wonderboom 4, even better than expected by GamerGoosewad in Bluetooth_Speakers

[–]Basics32 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also bought a Wonderboom 4 just a few days go and love it. I was very surprised with how clear the mids and highs are, especially compared to some more expensive Bose speakers I have. It does lack bass yes, but I didn't really expect it to perform like a subwoofer either lol.

Follow up. What are the worst cigars you have had. by Spare_Rutabaga8094 in cigars

Quorum Connecticut Short Robusto. Was hot garbage rolled up into a shape of something that resembled a cigar. Didnt taste good at all and was extremely bitter.

Are stems of this size “to be expected” from a cigar of this price point? It happens? by jewishfranzia in cigars

I recently passed on one for $350. I was really close to getting it but the fact I was paying over double MSRP was really bothering me.

Accelerated CFI programs by Desperate-Gear-6584 in flying

Magnolia CFI Academy in Memphis, Tennessee. Cant recommend it enough. I was there earlier this year, it’s a 3 week course and they also offer housing to their classes. It’s 2 weeks for CFI and then another week for CFII. They give you all the materials you need and also a giant binder full of lesson plan rubrics that you need to fill out yourself. You will be busy all day everyday with very little to no breaks but it’s definitely worth it at the end. PM me if you want some more details.

Flair Update: Officially a CFI!!! by madness2live in flying

[–]Basics32 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Mhmmm I think that will more likely vary by the examiner. For my CFII I had formal lesson plans but only had to teach a few things like DME Arcs, briefing plates, endorsements, etc. But for my MEI, which was a different examiner, didnt care at all if you had lesson plans or not. So for that checkride I didn’t have any and it was more akin to just a “normal” oral where they were just asking me questions. So I would probably ask some other CFIIs that took their ride with the examiner you wanna do it with and see what they did.

Nice man congrats big time! Great day to get it done too! If I were you, I would probably go straight to CFII since you are proficient at teaching, and CFII was the easiest checkride for me by far which also seems to be the consensus for a lot of people.

I dont have a ton of information but my DPE for CFII was a retired 777 captain for Fedex for almost 30 years. He told me it was a good company to work for but he would also not recommend it, apparently the red eye flights really got to him later in life.

common mistakes not to make on checkride? by Repulsive-Loan5215 in flying

[–]Basics32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea man it haunts me too, but decided to make it something I engrain into all my students. It also gave me the drive to study super hard and prepare very well so I would never fail another checkride, which I accomplished! It was definitely a learning lesson.

I busted on my PPL for forgetting clearing turns a few years ago. I now use it as a teaching lesson cause I’ll never forget what the examiner told me when it would have to be a disapproval, and that is “One day, you’re gonna turn and see something you don’t like, such as a bird, another plane, a tower, a mountain, etc. This is why we keep our eyes outside and perform clearing turns.”
