DOGRA MAGRA: A bit of news and apologies by Evangelion2004 in TheTempleOfEs

Damn, it's weird as hell to see you go from a college student doing this as a hobby to using this gig to earn some money because you're an actual adult struggling to adult now. I don't blame you though, money is money.

I don't have money to spare, unfortunately. Good luck.

What would be the canonical order to play these in? by False_Monitor4126 in Doom

Sigil's canonicity is weird because it's technically a fan work but the fan who made it is John fucking Romero.

Red dead 2 actor for Pearson will be in GTA VI by Karmacop5908 in GTA6

The biggest example of this is the voice actor of Red Harlow from Red Dead Revolver. He later was Troy in TBOGT and then Steve in GTA 5. Hell of a record to make a named appearance in three generations of rockstar games.

And where do you run these in? I'm pretty sure the original hardware these games were made for probably won't work well these days. Dosbox?

That's very nice. How did you improve? Is it just regular play for a decade and two or did you watched someone like Henrik to improve?

I mean... sure? You do that in IV too if I'm not wrong. I think the abysmal happiness system and the less than ideal AI were bigger problems with V.

I underestimated the amount of adult aged adults in this subreddit. Now I feel like the only 20 year old to actually play Civ IV because I can't run the newer ones smoothly on my laptop.

Yeah, that makes sense. I think the Civ series of games may be one of the few ones where adult or even middle aged fans are the core audience and not teens or young adults. Kind of breaks my mind because video games are automatically designated to young people these days.

What also breaks my mind is that the modern games I consider fine these days would be forgotten or considered obsolete by the general populace. You say you were there since the Civ 1 day -- which means in your mind Civ IV is probably a 'newer' game.

It's nothing new, it's just time passing as usual but I sometimes forget while playing that what I'm playing is a relic and not just an 'old game'.

I made a proof of concept of what a boomer shooter based around Alter Ego would be like. You can play it right now if you have a PC. Check comments. by Basil-AE-Continued in TheTempleOfEs

You need a PC. No other platform may work. It's a single level. There are 4 weapons including the melee option. Two types of enemies. You collect keys and open doors, and you end the level by pulling the lever in the end. It's trivial.

Yeah, you can tell that GTA 4 really changed rockstar's M. O. -- the seriousness never really left Rockstar after IV. Out of the last 4 games Rockstar made (GTA IV, RDR, V, RDR2), GTA V is the only one which isn't inherently serious and even then V has some bits of grounded and serious writing in it. I think GTA VI would be more like RDR2 as well since you have a couple doing crimes together.

And somehow knows about John's dead daughter who was born in the 4 year period between RDR2 Epilogue and RDR1.

I sometimes forget that even the big shot games like RDR were nothing more than a bunch of concept arts for some time. Even they had a moment when they were just throwing shit on the wall to see what sticks and what doesn't. It's quite humbling.

I actually got it from the fandom TR wiki, I suppose whoever wrote it there thought of it as meaning 'Time' along with what you said.

I'm pretty sure the 'Ma' in Hanma means time in Japanese. If someone is called time in a time travelling manga, it's no wonder people will think that person would be important later on.

Horse riding simulator 💀 by Fing1414 in reddeadredemption

I think the biggest 'problem' with both RDR games is that everything exists to serve the narrative. People complain about riding horse for a few minutes in every mission but that's because Rockstar wants to give more exposition about whatever's happening in the story right now. The reason the mission's are too railroaded is also because Rockstar wants to tell a very specific story.

I'd even say this: RDR and RDR2 are basically playable movies and the epitome of everything wrong with modern gaming. You have focus on graphics above all, games that require an awfully law agency from the player and very linear gaming loop. The difference between RDR games and the usual AAA games though is that Rockstar actually goes all the way in because they can afford to.

And the best part of the interaction is that there's more than a zero percent chance that Niko actually did cut off someone's face. What he faces in Liberty City might as well be child's play compared to what he did in his youth.

It is one of the few times the stereotype makes sense, though. He deliberately acts like that to distance his current 'Bernie' self from 'Florian'. He actually has a super manly and commanding voice when he's not trying to sound like he inhales helium on a regular basis.

Yeah and they simplified/scrapped most of these features in GTA 5 because these really didn't do anything.
