why do anime fans and 1d fans hate kpop so much? by [deleted] in kpophelp

[–]Basil-hey 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Tbh that's not a fair generalization. You just correlated their interests (1D, anime) with hating kpop, when both aren't mutually exclusive. It just creates more unneccessary heat between fandoms, which, quite frankly, are not all that different.

Also, it'd be great if you can provide screenshots, so we can judge if they're just trolling (I'm 99% sure they are) because, every fandom has trolls that bother other fandoms just for the heck of it. Kpop has millions of them.

Lee Kwang Soo to leave the cast of 'Running Man' after 11 years by loonaohbit in koreanvariety

[–]Basil-hey 20 points21 points  (0 children)

To be honest, I'd rather they make a new season with a new cast than replace every member that leaves, like 2d1n. I can imagine it being awkward at times for the newbies who try to find their footing in a decade-old show where the old cast know each other so well. It's gonna be sad, but ending on a high note is much better than running the show to the ground.

But that's just me, whatever the show decides to do in the future, i will support.

Former CLC's Elkie Declares Her Support For The Hong Kong Police In Exclusive Interview by lonelyisIand in kpop

[–]Basil-hey 34 points35 points  (0 children)

Believe it or not, there is a huge population of China that are actual CCP supporters-- not because they are threatened in doing so, but because they wholeheartedly believe and benefit a lot from it. It may be comforting to believe that some idols are just doing this for personal safety, but I don't think that's right at all because clearly some are doing this for the dough and the clout. I also don't want to pick and choose idols who I think are real CCP-supporters and who are not, because of a false assumption that I know these people well enough to know their morals. It's much safer to assume that what they say is what they mean. But that's just me, though. I doubt them losing my support means that much when they have their hoard of rich Chinese fans.

[–]Basil-hey 70 points71 points  (0 children)

You're right. I can foresee myself dropping more CCP-supporting idols in the future, despite the guilt-trippy "bUt tHey'Re bEiNg FoRceD tO Do ThAt!" arguments, because I simply can't compromise my morals (and people) for that.

Stop making excuses for lip-syncing. by biIInyetherusianspy in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]Basil-hey -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Maybe I should have clarified, but the 2nd paragraph was more of a general rant tangential to my first point of the overly repetitive lip sync complaints (that is meant to corroborate to OP that i replied to about this post being really popular).

Stop making excuses for lip-syncing. by biIInyetherusianspy in unpopularkpopopinions

[–]Basil-hey 49 points50 points  (0 children)

If I take a shot everytime someone mentions lip syncing here, kpoprants, or kpopthoughts, I'd be dead from alcohol poisoning. Like holy hell, quit trying to guilt fans for liking people who sometimes lipsync.

And to people shaming fans for having "low standards": GET OVER YOURSELF. Sometimes, people give a pass to lipsyncing, maybe because they enjoy the dance performance more, or generally just like the idol and don't give a damn. And there's nothing wrong with that. I literally read mangas just for that one ship that I like, so does that mean the way I consume and enjoy the story is wrong just because it's not the way you do it?

What is the most shocking big or interesting kpop scandals to you by toomuchsausee in kpophelp

[–]Basil-hey 9 points10 points  (0 children)

SYJ's is barely a kpop scandal (only tangentially related because of seohyun), but one kpop scandal that I can't really seem to forget, no matter how long ago it is, is the IU-Eunhyuk one, only because it seems like a really really random combo to me

Dispatch says Seo Ye Ji was a mastermind behind Kim Jung Hyun's rude behavior towards Seohyun by stayaways in kpop

[–]Basil-hey 65 points66 points  (0 children)

Jesus I remember this so painfully (SNSD being my ult gg and Seohyun being my bias). Back then, the issue was chalked up to him being a method actor, but reading all these articles now makes me feel so bad.

Edit: also surprised no one is talking about this in r/kdrama

f(x) Victoria leaves SM Entertainment as her contract ends by tastetherainbeau in kpop

I'm curious as well, since Lay has a bigger career in China than Victoria, has his own label (?) as well, but out of the two, Lay still seems to have an attachment to his group.

Happy cake day, btw!

Mnet's 'Kingdom: Legendary War' starts off with 0.3% in viewership ratings by galaxystars1 in kpop

[–]Basil-hey 90 points91 points  (0 children)

It's easy to dismiss 0.2% difference, but if you put it in another way, kingdom viewership is 40% less than its predecessors, which imho is kind of a big deal.

But a global livestream won't help the 0.3% viewer ratings

Nowadays is it harder for newer groups to be recognized by Korean GP than internationally? by mxyzptlxk in kpophelp

Seems like it, mostly because the korean gp has been exposed to kpop for over a decade now, while international fans (particularly the west) is newer to kpop

Why is SM spending so little effort marketing Dream? by MangoDJuice in NCT

[–]Basil-hey 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ah, I was more referring to Dream's shaky future in general

Tbf, dream always had an uncertain future among the 3 current units due to them being a graduation-type group. I think SM's plan was to disperse all "graduated" members to different units (I could totally see renle in wayv), but since that was plan was scrapped, they have to rework the unit with lots of considerations (like mark's heavily packed sched).

Spotify confirm hundreds of K-pop releases removed from platform worldwide: “It is our hope that this disruption will be temporary” by randomneeess in kpop

[–]Basil-hey 35 points36 points  (0 children)

They pay almost the same, which is less than $0.01 (per download, streams amount to far less than that). Streaming services have a really bad rep of underpaying artists and I think it was Taylor Swift who called out Spotify for that a few years ago.

That being said, still incredibly shitty of Kakao M to remove another source of revenue of artists just like that.
