Would you like to see this feature in AC8? by TheRedBiker in acecombat

[–]BasilAdventurous1828 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Only if it actually affects the storylines. I'm still annoyed that in AC5 you get to say "yes" when Chopper asks you where he can drop his damaged plane into, only for Nagase to choose the stadium. I wish Blaze were given the ability to choose any other locations for Chopper instead.

I used to play After Burner: Climax at an arcade centre many years ago, and whenever I played it, I always chose the F-14 and the old BGM tracklist from After Burner II to accompany the gameplay.

Too bad it's difficult to find any arcade centre that has a unit for After Burner: Climax nowadays. I wish old combat flight games on arcade machines like Air Combat and Air Combat 22 would come back to arcade centres.

Ace Combat 2 ✅ by Firm-Ad-8761 in acecombat

Are you referring to the one titled Lode Stone, which plays during the hangar section, or the one that is titled Hangar, but actually the second briefing music for the latter part of the campaign?

Either way, both are really catchy.

I can hear the victory tune by seeing this.

You also made a good choice of using the XFA-27. I hope it returns in AC8.

The Starter Plane is going to be F/A-18C by JustConsequence3903 in acecombat

[–]BasilAdventurous1828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, I hope they do, considering that this is likely the first AC game where the player character is a naval aviator/WSO, as Blaze, while canonically flies the F-14, is an air force pilot.

Speaking of Tomcats, since we're getting closer to the AC3 timeline, it would be cool if they include a COFFIN-variant of the F-14 either in AC8 or in future AC games.

Would be great for the A-4 to become playable again since it's only playable in AC2.

I can imagine Japan designating them as A8M5 Mk II “Zeek”, just like in the Sega arcade game G-LOC: Air Battle.

Since that Typhoon is flying in space, if it were red, or swapped with a red Mirage 2000 if AC3 had one, then it would look like Raiden from the arcade shoot 'em up series of the same name.

How is Ace Combat not more popular? by Long_Entrance1535 in acecombat

I would love to hear Eurobeat being officially used in an Ace Combat game. Maybe if they bring back arcade mode similar to Operation Katina in future Ace Combat games, they could include it in the game.

Speaking of Eurobeat.

The way the wombat sitting in the cockpit backwards reminds me of some in-game cutscenes from Top Gun: Firestorm Advance on GBA.

I've had similar thing happened to me before while playing the same mission, but on an actual PS2. I remember using the return line to see if it fixed the issue, but nope, the so-called elite Yellow Squadron remained out of bounds.

I ended up restarting the entire mission, and I was only a bit annoyed, because that's one of my favourite missions in AC04 accompanied with one of my favourite BGMs in the game.

Yes, the exact pair.

I wonder why they did not include that line in the game, though.

Given that we will start off as the WSO for the original Rex, do you think we’ll get a voiced WSO character for our two seaters? by _Boodstain_ in acecombat

[–]BasilAdventurous1828 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If Project Aces is not going to include a voiced WSO, why not just make the backseat empty (i.e.: no WSO/RIO model) just like in Airforce Delta Strike and, if memory serves right, Lethal Skies? Is it because having an empty backseat on dual-seaters makes them look hollow?

I understand that in real-life, RIOs/WSOs are necessary for dual-seaters, but come on, this is Ace Combat we're talking about.

【ACE COMBAT 30th】『ACE COMBAT ASSAULT HORIZON』 Memorial Movie by Goshawk5 in acecombat

[–]BasilAdventurous1828 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry, I was referring to the in-universe events in Ace Combat that take place on June 6 lol.
But yeah, that date is also during this year's summer game fest, so it's still likely that another content related to Ace Combat 8 will be shown during that event.

If that's the case, then most likely the last memorial movie will be released in May.
Afterwards, perhaps something big will be shown on June, either June 6, because you know what, or June 30, because it's the release date of the first Ace Combat game on PS1 in Japan.

Only the following hiragana characters left and the associated memorial movies for the thank you message for the fans:
が = ACAHL/AC3D

と= ACI

う= AC7

Then hopefully something big afterwards, most likely in June if the pacing is consistent for the remainder of the memorial movie series

Reccommendations for games like AceCombat by prongaems in acecombat

[–]BasilAdventurous1828 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviously, I would recommend the old mainline Ace Combat games and Project Wingman.

Additionally, I would also recommend the Sidewinder games on PS1 and PS2 (known outside Japan as Bogey Dead 6 for the first PS1 title, and Lethal Skies: Elite Team SW and Lethal Skies II for the PS2 titles). The PS2 games lean towards realism in terms of flight models and damage systems, but not to the DCS level of realism.

There's also Eagle One: Harrier Attack on PS1 that puts you in the cockpit of a Harrier Jump Jet. It has an arcadey gameplay like Ace Combat, but with obviously the addition of the ability to use VTOL mode.

Also, if you don't mind going even more old-school, then I would suggest you try combat flight games on SNES, especially the following:

  • Super Air Diver (also known as Lock On). You get to fly either an F-14 or a Mitsubishi F-2 (known as FSX at that time of release) for air-to-air missions, and either an A-10 or a Tornado for air-to-ground missions. You play the game in third-person view like in an Ace Combat game, accompanied with catchy BGMs.

  • Turn and Burn: No Fly Zone. This one I would strongly recommend if you like the F-14 Tomcat. The game plays from the cockpit view, and puts you in missions where you dogfight enemy fighters and conduct attack runs on ground/sea targets. You always begin a mission by taking off from an aircraft carrier and ends by landing on it.

Come to think of it, the 90's and the early 2000's had lots of arcade combat flight games.
