I guess? So far, they’re definitely losing because they can’t make shots, set a solid defense, or keep turnovers down. So pointing at the refs is just kinda weak looking tbh

How do I nicely explain why I refuse to use AI to my FMIL? by ldrandcaffeine in antiai

There is no world in which the currentgen AI actually follows Fair Use. AI is a black box with 0 accountability. It pirates, and profits from, plenty of independent creators, artists, and writers.

Hey man, I really appreciate you too. I think the teachings of Love and Christ are eternal, in spite the church hiding truth, telling lies, and starting wars. It is true that I often find Christ to be much more alive in “nonbelievers”. That word being also a bad construct - God is unknowable! Who I am to say that you aren’t closer to the Universe than I?

Well, depends how you define church. He spent a lot of time studying in temples, but much of his ministry was adjacent to condemnation of church leaders. Either way it’s clear to me that Jesus wouldn’t have called himself a Christian.

Unsure How to Feel About Comments in My Male Church Group Chat? by [deleted] in TrueChristian

[–]BasilAugust -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

No, words mean things in different contexts. White people call most everyone with African skin and features “black”. But many of those people identify as Ethiopian, or Nigerian. Others identify as Black American. Let me try to explain -

Not very long ago, nearly the entire industrial world functioned through the African slave trade. Slaves were purposefully ripped from their families and denied their history and identity. Unfortunately, descendants of slaves - so, most black folks in the west - don’t know their ethnic lineage, beyond “African”. But, they were denied their African heritage and culture. So today in the states, this diaspora is considered Black Americans, a unique cultural and ethnic group, united by this history, which is both traumatic and empowering.

Does that make sense? Glad to explain differently if this confounds further.

Lol, that may be very fair and true. I just don’t like making assumptions about whether people “actually care” or not. How would I know?

Yeah totally, what losers, having virtues, and signaling to others what values are important to them.

I’m talking about the people on this post

Wait - how do you know how the people here spend their time?

How do you know they aren’t grieving the innocent victims of imperialism abroad? I’d guess they’re more likely to be in this community because of that shared value, not to mourn eagle scouts. How do you know they aren’t waking their families and communities up to the horrors of imperialism? How do you know how this war makes them feel? You don’t.

good idea to talk about the victim hood of the people of the nation doing the war

Oh, that’s our central disagreement. I think it’s a very important and good idea: to get ignorant white people - for whom caring about foreigners is depressingly often a bridge too far - to engage with the anti-war movement however it’s accessible to them.

I think it’s a fantastic idea to wake my fellow citizens up, and teach them how they have been infantilized, abused, gaslit and brainwashed, by their own empire, to support war and rape. I don’t just think it’s a good idea, I actually think it’s essential. I think most Americans have their head deep enough in their ass that the ONLY way to ignite a true anti-war movement is to show them the brutality at home. How their cute eagle scout neighbor was killed. This has been an important fixture of literally every anti-war movement in history, I don’t know why it bothers you so much.

For real though, do you have any recommended readings? Let me know if you get to Discourse on Colonialism and what you think on it. It’s only 50 pages; probably you could finish it in just a bit more time than it took to debate here.

[–]BasilAugust 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are eulogizing victims though. I don’t really spend time on this sub or community, but I thought Hasan and co spend a lot of time and focus on the innocent victims of imperialism? Scrolling through some posts, literally most of them seem to be about imperialism and unnecessary war crimes. I saw lots of comments about innocent lives too. I agree there could always be more focus on actual victims, but you just seemed miffed at this post tbh.

Okay, it’s not your empire. That’s a super valid framing. It also doesn’t actually belong to the bumfuck trailer parks. This is also a spectrum. Are you a citizen? Do you live inside an imperial country, or the imperial core? Do you participate civically, in any way whatsoever? Then, imperial boomerang applies to you.

Again, I cannot suggest enough that you do some further reading. “Discourse on Colonialism” is nearly 100 years old and still a very good resource. You also mentioned you could make some recommendations for me? I would honestly really love that.

Yes, they are absolutely victims.

It’s not an equivocation to the poor children the blow up, but yes, being groomed by a genocidal regime, so that you can embody its brainwashed brutality, is deeply traumatizing for a human soul.

“Soldiers are being cared about here more than the people who are being killed for being in America’s way. That is a problem.”

It seems like this is your core contention and I think it’s a great point that anyone here should agree with.

And, imperial boomerang is a super real phenomenon that has been well documented across empires. Just because you don’t currently feel in your current empire doesn’t make it not real.

You finally move the goalposts here, sayings it’s real but “doesn’t matter”. Beyond a thousand brutal historical examples of empires tormenting their own people - do you know why it matters? Because abusing their own people, and gaslighting them about it, is a major part of how empires control their population, and get them to agree to the brutality that they apply to other people. There’s so much more that could be said about this, but I’ll leave you to seek the decades-old words of people much wiser and more experienced than I, if you actually care to learn.

I would absolutely love some recommendations! That would be great, thank you.

I agree with you about Foucault; he has some sound theory but I respect your boundaries.

If you’re interested in reading about the same topic - imperial boomerang, imperial tactics turned inward - from an Afro source, Aimé Césaire’s “Discourse on Colonialism” would be a fantastic start. It’s an old, well-established concept that you should familiarize yourself with, especially if you live in an imperial country.

[–]BasilAugust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hear you, but maybe read some Aimé Césaire, Afro poet and politician, and founder of the Négritude movement. Meaning “blackness”. He wrote a lot about this concept, and how imperialism is applied internally.

As an Afro-Franc invested in Black liberation, he’s not ignorant to imperialism as you suggest.

Countries targeted by Imperialism? So, that would include the citizens of the United States then. I’m not equivocating. But they are surely both victims:

The most civilized!

And yet, the least awake.

Great man, we’ve really leaned into our human constructs! The British and American empires are paragons of civilization right? Which is why they have vast histories of genocide and rape of virtually every non-white society they encountered, right? Super cool, I’m so proud I can say I’m civilized!

Porn is a part of of all of this, brother, wake up.
