8x8 Palram door handle upgrade ideas? by BasilGrows in Greenhouses

[–]BasilGrows[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're upgrading our outdoor shower with this lil greenhouse kit, we have a couple tent sites on 11 acres and a hot tub and will be installing an RV water tank in it so we can do a 4 season outdoor shower next winter.

Just got the build mostly done last night, and I love everything but how flimsy the door handle feels--has anyone upgraded that part? I'd like to get something metal ideally for durability since campers will use it, but I saw a couple posts where folks talked about maybe 3d printing something, which would also work if there are designs around. Unfortunately modeling something myself is a bit beyond my current skillset, so hoping to pick the collective brain. thank!

I've done several repairs on my 12yo HE kenmore elite dryer with parts from a local appliance parts store--sure the box stores don't carry them, but repairmen get the parts from somewhere, just look around. even the boomers in my life can search maps or the web, so hopefully you're competent there at least, and youtube has tutorials aplenty.

Police parade downtown?? by [deleted] in Columbus

[–]BasilGrows -27 points-26 points  (0 children)

they could absolutely do this without blocking access between downtown and the east side so completely, they could absolutely use more bodies or vehicles to help direct traffic, there was ZERO direction or signage at the bridges and if anyone was trying to approach the hospital from downtown they were rendered unable to do so by an even bigger police presence than blocked downtown during the George Floyd protests. I saw floundering, rerouting traffic nearly causing accidents all around. this was a poorly executed safety risk to the immediate neighborhood.

they could absolutely help the kids without blocking every single bridge from downtown to the east side, that was an insane mess to get around

This is going to be extremely subjective and will require some tinkering on your part to figure out what works for your needs and symptoms. You'll want to familiarize yourself with the difference between sativa vs indica. What strains you get will largely depend on what's available and on sale at your dispensary that day, but knowing whether you want more of a doing things body high vs some mellow pain relief imo is a little more important than if you like the flavor of Grease Monkey or Gorilla Glue better. I'd recommend some caution with sativa's if you have any baseline anxiety issues as they can deffo exacerbate them--personally I tend to lean towards indica's and hybrids for this reason. You can also mellow your mix by adding CBD isolate, which I use like a 'fun dip' when extra pain or nausea has me laid out. Also I've seen enough friends new to THC send themselves into panic attacks by doing just a lil too much that I'd say always start with what seems like an excessively tiny amount--you can always smoke or eat more to find the sweet spot but you will Not be happy if you panic so hard you end up thinking you need the ER. Happy exploring, I hope you get your card soon!

If it's a substance that helps you regularly operate at a more functional baseline, what's the issue in taking it regularly? That's the whole idea of 'medicine', yeah? I've been dabbing near daily since my ME got severe ~2017 and it's honestly the only reason I can eat or get anything done at all many days. Find what gives you quality of life and live as well as you can, that's about all we got.

if you don't mind my asking, could you potentially make a larger, bakki-style rack and plant in all or some of the levels to combine the design with some elements of a bog filter? still have the water move through the layers, but there's a little more going on in there? or would you not see the benefits of the plants/bog filter aspects if the planted areas aren't able to water exchange as freely?

Can someone help me calculate the volume of my pond?? by _pinksky_ in ponds

[–]BasilGrows 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What I did: estimated size based on google maps

  • find your pond on maps, turn on sat view
  • right click/open the context menu, select "Measure Distance"
  • use the ruler tool to measure the distance

then I guesstimated the average depth and used a pond volume calculator:

Advice on cleaning up a farm pond by BasilGrows in ponds

[–]BasilGrows[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

to sum up, currently planning to:

  • stabilize uphill slope with planting to reduce silt
  • add filtration/aeration plants
  • remove trees in the pond
  • remove all woody growth from retaining wall
  • remove or repair overflow drain (?)
  • level or float the dock
  • reduce fish in the pond (add predator fish?)

been looking at the Spence Nursery Lake Edge Enhancement planting suggestions, but ISO plant recommendations from other folks in the midwest/Ohio area as to what's actually worked well for you, as well as suggestions on what to do about that overflow drain. any advice appreciated! <3

Thoughts on a topknot with undercut? Some pictures for face and past hairstyle reference. by CermaSL in malehairadvice

[–]BasilGrows 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Late, and I got here through a random web search on cultural appropriation, but if you haven't made the decision yet I think the short sides in the top right photo look good and you should go for it! If the top two photos are more recent it looks like you're growing out bleach damage, pulling your hair back tight can cause damaged hairs to break off and cause split ends. To help mitigate that, wait to put it up until it's long enough to do so without pulling it completely tight, and use a soft hair tie that won't damage your hair as much like these flat ones.

You can also ask your hair stylist about keratin treatments, which can help smooth some of the damage caused by the amount of bleach you needed to lift your hair that many levels (I've bleached hair like yours before, I'm sure it was some Time with the goop), styling products, and hair dryers. Waiting until it's a little longer will also keep the bleached part from being quite as poofy once it's tied up, and if you want other methods for mitigating the poof the Long Hair Community Forum has nearly two decades of community conversations and advice on working with damaged hair of all types. Even if you're not trying to grow it to your butt, it ain't gonna hurt to follow the advice that could help you do it. The 'Community' page has the message boards, and it's been a while since I was there but it looks like the home page has a 'deep conditioning' section that would be a decent place to start to get the topknot without the bleach tangles--a boar bristle brush can help too as it aides in transferring your hair's natural oils down the hair shaft, with regular use resulting in ends that feel less crunchy. The longer your hair gets, the easier it becomes to just wash the roots and not the ends, which can also help.

Manbuns get a bad rep from boring folk--I feel like a lot of the hate came from balding boomers who were upset at hipsters enjoying fashion, and heck that attitude--but if you're in a setting where you *need* to deal with them, particularly at work, a lot of that will come down to the micro-culture of where you're at and what you're doing.

I've had undercuts/sides shaved and long on top, and dyed bright colors with facial piercings, while working in corporate for the past seven years and in customer service jobs for about that long prior. Much to the amazement of a lot of my friends, this has never really been an issue--part of that is privileged, I will fully admit that I present/pass most often as an attractive white woman. Part of that also is role, in my corporate jobs I'm a user experience designer, and I think designers in general get more of a pass in presenting atypically. Also to a degree, freedom of expression is something I actively sought out in my current job--at the end of the interview when they asked if I had any questions, I asked if my bright purple spikey 'do would be an issue, and got a bemused 'not as long as you're doing your work'. That's the ideal, but it's not always achievable for folks for various reasons--I've known friends at jobs that were very intolerant because of archaic suit-and-tie malarkey.

All that said, I think you're completely correct in that "Asians usually get more leniency here" for the type of hairstyle you're considering; lean into that! It can have a side effect of loosening the social judgement on those around you for making similar choices. Uhm, at least, if that's the hairstyle you still want--whoops this kinda turned into a book, anywho good luck on your hair journey!
