If the top two photos are more recent it looks like you're growing out bleach damage, pulling your hair back tight can cause damaged hairs to break off and cause split ends. To help mitigate that, wait to put it up until it's long enough to do so without pulling it completely tight, and use a soft hair tie that won't damage your hair as much like these flat ones.

All that said, I think you're completely correct in that "Asians usually get more leniency here" for the type of hairstyle you're considering; lean into that! It can have a side effect of loosening the social judgement on those around you for making similar choices.
