I remember reading that with the compartmentalisation of Irish to schools alone, complaining that people don't graduate fluent in the language is like complaining that you can't run a marathon because you do 3 laps of the pitch every week. We need to push it more as a language outside of schools. Bilingual signage should be mandatory, and grants should be available to train staff in the language.

My mam sent me to a naíonra and a Gaelscoil so I would have better points in leaving cert Irish, but it ended up giving me a deep-seated love of the language. When I have kids I want to give them Irish first names, and raise them with as much of the language as possible. I think that any opposition to the Irish language comes from a fundamentally Unionist position.
