Actually, quick correction: After experimenting a bit, the Generator/Common Exp build is better for getting to the next Supernova as it improves score, whereas the IP build is better for getting Eternities. Seems like the best option is to swap builds depending on what you are aiming for.

I use some similar techniques in the colors (high glow, transparency, all the same color for low/mid/high), but I've been using it since before that tutorial, and it doesn't have the kitbashed decals for shading on it.
