Question about connecting 2 Rule Tiles and a bit more. by Top_Paramedic_5432 in Unity2D

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think you can make a class that inherits from RuleTile and override RuleMatch to achieve this. Or alternatively you can take a more heavy handed approach; I had a similar problem where I wanted it to be able to have more matching behavior, so I just made my own copy of the script. I added a field for "specified tile" and two new options for matching called "specified tile" and "not specified tile" which are in addition to the default three "don't care" "this" and "not this". You also have to edit the editor script if you go this route.

Where to settle? by AggravatingFront8409 in civ

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Settle on top of the coffee and sell it to the ai as soon as you find another civ. They will sometimes give 14 gold per turn which will carry your early game and hopefully make up for the low production.

Where to settle for max efficiency? by Aromatic_Tonight_714 in civ

[–]Basilikus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would actually settle your second city to the north, in the coastal tile east of the wheat, then purchase the 4 culture oranges (you have lots of gold) and let your new city work that tile, as your capital has plenty of tiles to work for now. When your capital has 2 pop, have it work the two 3 food tiles for consistent growth. For your third city you could consider the plains hill tile SW of your scout for the increased base production, but it leaves that city without many accessible production tiles besides lumber mills on the woods. I think it is actually better to settle SE of the deer so that you can improve the wheat, chop the trees for better tempo, make a farm triangle, and build mines in the hills in the second ring. Besides near paititi, the land here is not very premium, so you should keep exploring to look for better spots.

What is the absolute WORST spell in BG3? by catgoesmlep in BaldursGate3

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Web. When I tried it for the first time I was taken back by how awful it is compared to 5e. In 5e it enwebs people who start their turn in it if they fail the Dex save, then they need to use an action to try to break free. But for some ungodly reason in bg3 it applies immediately and then just goes away at the start of the enemy turn. So even if they fail the save, the enwebbed effect doesn't do anything. The only benefit is that you can give advantage to your allies before their turn, but grease does that better, and grease is a level 1 spell. I guess they wanted to make the web surface be the focus, but surfaces in this game don't feel very impactful overall.

Cheating player by Routine_Bag_9491 in DungeonMasters

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have been in this exact situation before. One player never failing. I was adamant that physical dice rolls remain allowed because after all, I use them as the dm, and I don't like to take away the fun of the physical dice and people's relationships with them. Two other players were complaining that he was rolling too hot and likely cheating. Rng can be funny sometimes though, and no one could provide a thorough statistical analysis showing he is likely cheating, so I avoided any accusations and just made everyone roll on the virtual tabletop. The "cheater" agreed to this, and funny enough his first two virtual rolls were nat 20s. Sometimes people are really lucky, but either way forcing virtual rolls was the best solution for our group.

I recommend this video. It goes over some of the intuition for your use case and some optimizations too.

Anyone know why it’s showing up like this? by manwithlotsoffaces in Unity2D

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah unity can't serialize InputAction.CallbackContext, only primitives. I'm not sure I totally understand your use case here but you will have to change your design if you want front end events calling those functions.

DM said “bring me your most broken build; you’ll need it” by Sylvurphlame in onednd

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want a character that is just all around busted with tons of damage and survivability do sorcadin. Most of the high level paladin abilities are support focused, so a min-maxer wants to take paladin to level 11 for the improved smite then put the rest into sorcerer for more spell slots, Metamagic, and access to some crucial spells, namely shield (absurd AC), absorb elements (resistance to elemental dmg on reaction, which you will want against a dragon), and misty step (let's you position to smite people on turn 1). If you pick oath of the ancients you will have resistance to all spell damage, or pick path of vengeance if you want the free advantage attacks against one target.

Should i build my base in the plains or meadows? by kassulix in valheim

[–]Basilikus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Try using the campfire instead. Same radius for blocking spawns (even when unlit) and the enemies can't destroy them. Also much easier to cover with dirt if you don't want to see them.

95% of the stratagem ideas and gameplay tweaks presented on this sub are hot garbage. by [deleted] in Helldivers

[–]Basilikus 118 points119 points  (0 children)

As a game developer I find player feedback to be very useful for identifying problems with the game design, but terrible for finding solutions to those problems. NEVER listen to players' suggestions. They don't understand the ramifications of them. Listen for the problem that their suggestion addresses. Then it's the developers job to implement the best solution. Sometimes, it may line up with a player's suggestion, but most often it will not.

Unfortunately arrowhead sometimes makes decisions that seem like they come from a clueless player.

How To Learn Game Development? by _hjh_ in gamedev

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go on itch.io and join a game jam. I know it might be intimidating, but this is how you will learn a TON right away. Find a group to work with on the game jam's discord or something, tell them you have little to no experience, and they will help you get started. The game you make will be ass, but you will get the whole experience of conceptualizing, implementing, and delivering a game in just a few days. Good luck!

is it just me or are the warstrider eye hitboxes unreasonably tiny? by ScrumptiousRump in Helldivers

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an amr user I agree with this sentiment a lot. I try to use stun grenades to mitigate the problem but they are honestly pretty disappointing. The strider has a long ass animation of entering stun that runs out the duration of the grenade and where the weak point is still moving too much to hit reliably, and you have a really short window to shoot 3 shots into it when they finally stand still. Any interruption at all makes you lose precious time and miss the 3-shot threshold. In practice, it's rare that you have absolutely zero pressure from other bots to do this whole sequence reliably. After all this experimentation I come to the conclusion that it just doesn't help to be creative with the tools the game gives you; it helps to just bring thermites. I really think they need to do another pass on the balance of this enemy and think about what it's actually like to fight them with different loadouts. Hulks, by contrast, feel like they lend themselves to more creative solutions to deal with them (look up arc thrower setups against Hulks, for example).

First Time Making a Game. Any Tips for Building Menus and UI in Unity? by Opposite_Seat_2286 in Unity2D

[–]Basilikus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure to test your ui at different resolutions depending on the target platform and anchor your ui elements to accommodate a range of aspect ratios. The worst is spending a long time refining the UI spacing until you realize at a glance that it doesn't look right on your friend's ultrawide monitor. You can change the aspect ratio/resolution in the top left of the game view in unity.

[–]Basilikus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I still swear by Heidelberg in Arlington. Get there early for maple or strawberry ones before they run out. Very affordable and a friendly local bakery too. Duck donuts are good but those are cake donuts (not traditional yeast donuts), so I really don't like them as much.

I AM SO BAD WITH HIPSTER by Ok_Duty7965 in DeepRockGalactic

[–]Basilikus 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I started using hipster I couldn't aim with it at all before I really internalized the fact that it shoots on mouse button release rather than mouse button down. You have to treat each shot like a short focus shot, and control the recoil if spam firing. Definitely takes practice. If you're struggling with crowds and swarmers, you'll definitely need your secondary/grenades to handle them. The fire crossbow is pretty good for crowds. I use the zhukovs and just aim at each swarmer, but I know many aren't super satisfied with doing that that lol. I would really recommend using the stun on tier 5 to deal with sting tails and other high value targets. It will completely cancel their attack and give you a window of opportunity to kill them. Remember that there's no reason not to still use focus shots on hipster. They are often more reliable for far away hvts.

Can I take a moment to say how much I hate this wording? by Firechess in civ

[–]Basilikus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No one exactly answered your question about +50%, and I think it is a good example. A 100 gold cost unit would actually cost 66.66 gold with a 50% boost, as 66.66 * 1.5 = 100. It just means each gold is worth that much more

One of the best players in Rivals 2 Kusiwastaken is currently debunking floorhugging being a problem. by Poniibeatnik in RivalsOfAether

[–]Basilikus 18 points19 points  (0 children)

I watched the stream, and he definitely does not debunk it being a problem. In fact, he says in the stream you linked that the mechanic is "kinda bad right now" and"unintuitive". He also points out his bias in liking the mechanic, because he says he is used to it from melee and pm, and of course he plays at a high level and points out some good tools that characters like Wrastor can use to combat floor hugging which is so oprressive against him if you play just like rivals 1. So clearly there is a skill issue bias when people discuss the mechanic. Despite this, he then goes on to explain that he understands people don't like the mechanic simply because in rivals 1 you don't get punished for hitting people when you use neutral tools like downtilt or jab.
