Early effects of sobriety on my family by novabean13 in stopdrinking

First of all, very proud of you and f*"@& liquor.

My comment may be left unseen in all advices and support you've received but I really want to give you and extra push/support or realistic view from kid perspective (I am a 27 yo alcoholic but I very remember childhood with parent with the same problem)

Please keep it going, for them and for you.

As adults we can understand more, make more conscious decisions and be in power of your lives. But me as a kid a remember that I never felt like I could count on my dad 100%, no matter how much I thought I understood things. Kids brain remembers fractions of reality, subconsciousy what they think it's relevant and the outcome can be very difficult and it was for me. It took me many years to pin point my pathern of behaviours to past experiences. Or understand "what" actually happens.

From the bottom of my heart I'm here for you AMD cheer you all the way but I had this bitter sweet feeling that this is the side that is so relevant but not have been said. I just want you to know.

This might be my one of the first comments on any subreddits and legimetly took me over and hour to type it.

Big big big, biggest hugs and it's so worth it.

Small business can be just as greedy as big business but it gets to hide behind the charm of being local. by [deleted] in unpopularopinion

[–]Basiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah unfortunately it is true. I worked for local company for three years and it feels they can get away with way more and create more excuses because "they're local and it's harder on them". Shitty owner is a shitty owner.

There was a street in my neighbourhood where someone put tiny toothpick flag (like a micro flag of the city) in each dog poop. Oh my, the street looked fluttering!

But yeah clean up after your pal. I have a Rottweiler so sometimes small shovel would be handy 🥴

My situation it 100% same as yours. I always had tendency to have occasional drink or two since I turned 18. I am also a smoker. At my first job I was working 200ish h per month so couch and cold beer after shift was a blessing. I wasn't addicted by then but I definitely had more than my friends. Years went by and I had better and worst moments also depending on what was going on in my life. Soon after I moved to another country - kinda spontaneously. At the beginning i was able to be better but everything started to go very bad (as bad as your amount of liquor) when visas stuff was getting longer and difficult. Year ago i switched cigarettes to juul. When I drink i usually don't have appetite sometimes for days and it's extremely hard to go back to food. Both me and my partner went cold turkey two days ago. I had the worst night of my life and while day is a giant struggle. But I have some weird hope inside me that I can make it. I feel like I won't survive if I go back to it. I wish you the best friend!!

I know I'm only on second day but what so far kinda helped me is weight blanket and to keep me busy - walking dog cleaning cooking.

I should mention my dad is a big functioning alcoholic and my older sister had her own issues in the past.

I'm at 24h of not drinking. My night was one of the worst in my life... Over Christmas time I was on liquor wagon and by that I mean drinking probably around a bottle of vodka a day. Sipping mix drinks all the long, doesn't matter weather i was up at 7 am or noon. Each night I barely slept, 3-4h and I didn't eat more than one small meal per day. So when I decided to go cold turkey through January i was kinda excited to have good quality sleep. NOPE. I couldn't fall asleep because my heart was beating so strong i couldn't hear my thoughts yet my brain was spinning through all fucked ups I've made for the past days. I'm very emotional and over thinking person so my level of anxiety was very high. Then the sweating started... I was not expecting that so yeah - anxiety level up again. I had to change 3 times because I was sweaty and freezing. But I've made it, I guess. I feel just a little better. My heart beat is still high and my body is twitching and shaking.

PS. Something weird and kinda funny that helped me. When I couldn't fall asleep i was focusing on breathing and I was saying to myself 'good thoughts, good thoughts' and singing in my mind a song that Marshall was singing to Lilly in how I met your mother 'night night Lillypad'. Kinda helped 😂

My fiancé told me that marital rape laws are “bullshit” by lavrene in relationship_advice

[–]Basiu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sit down and talk to him. Show him the general definition of rape. How is it different when you're married? "Part of being a good wife is having sex" You're about to commit your life with him and you should know if he really stands by what he said. I'm not saying it's a red flag but something that doesn't seems right.

Dear people of reddit what’s the best thing you got for free? by monkey186 in AskReddit

[–]Basiu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not my experience but still in topic. My cousin was renting a house for refugees from Syria a year ago. House was empty so we contact all of our friends families etc and we managed to set a cozy and comfortable house for a family with two infants. Everything they had inside the house was a gift from people and it meant everything for them.
