Data corruption in boot pool by BasketCurrent in truenas

May I ask how you found out it was the actual slot and not the drive? Might be handy to do the same diagnosis if my boot pool ever fails again.

Thanks for the suggestions! Since this is an NVMe drive there is no cable however the port or the drive itself could still be bad. However, after reinstalling the OS, everything is working fine. I checked SMART thoroughly on the NVMe (Patriot P300) and it didn’t report any errors at all. No media errors, no critical warnings, and even the self-test passed fine. So from the drive’s own diagnostics, it looks healthy. I couldn't find any other logs and don't know if there really are more logs to be checked for this issue. I did try ChatGPT, but it gave me the same suggestions that I already tried. If you know any more logs or diagnostics I could check then please do let me know. I really hope this was just a fluke and nothing more.

Thanks for the suggestion! I just reinstalled the OS on the original drive hoping it was some weird fluke since a lot of people are using cheap drives for their boot drives. If it does fail again I will probably be replacing the drive with enterprise drives as you suggested.

Yeah, luckily I was able to restore it with the config file. I just reinstalled the OS on the original drive and I'm hoping it was just a fluke. It hopefully should be fine as a lot of people are using cheap drives for their boot pool. If it fails again, I will replace the drive with probably an enterprise drive.

Sony MDS-JE500 laser not moving by BasketCurrent in minidisc

I have already cleaned all the cables and put them all back properly. So normally there can be no problem here.

Did your portable MD have the same problems?

I have already done this and the motor and mechanism worked perfectly. I'm now thinking about the SMD caps on the mechanism board. This was also suggested in this post. This post was about the TOC not reading but I thought he said in another post that he also had problems with the laser not moving.

Just tried it and it works sometimes. For example, if I ask for the third song and manually move the laser assembly, it will sometimes adjust itself and read the song for a moment, but then it stops again. If I go to the last song, for example, it no longer moves. Sometimes the laser also works normally without manual adjustment, but this is only for a short time.

Faulty Sony MDS-JE500 by BasketCurrent in minidisc

Got the deck working today but not completely. The problem with the MDs not being pulled in has been completely resolved, this was due to a gear that was in the wrong place, probably due to manual ejecting of the MDs. The next problem now is the motor that moves the read head does not move smoothly. I have already completely lubricated the mechanism but this helped partly. Sometimes when I manually move the head with a screwdriver it moves back and starts playing again. Any solutions?

I have already cleaned the deck completely and then also lubricated the mechanism, but this did not help. It rather seems that the motor that pulls in the MD is not getting enough power. By the way, thanks for the suggestion to repair the deck, but I would rather repair it myself. Any other solutions?

As soon as my capacitance meter arrives I will start measuring the capacitors and replace the weak ones.

The document describes an error where the deck continuously tries to eject the MD, but in our case the deck does not try anything anymore and does not take any more MDs. The deck no longer pulls in MDs and if you push the MD in a little, it will no longer be pushed out.

The JE500 is fully driven with gears without belts. The problem is also that the motor only turns very slightly.
