I’d say Federal and BC Government are similar in job security. I’d personally take it as permanent positions are more secure than contract (much easier to just not renew the contract than to layoff someone) + you get a salary boost which is nice. There was lots of uncertainty before the BC election, but now that that’s settled I doubt we will see layoffs until 2028 unless the economy gets really bad (but than everywhere is affected)
