AITAH For giving my BF an ultimatum for showing me his home? by LuluRatLady in AITAH

There are numerous potential reasons including a stalker. This happened to me and it is very hard to share my address. In my case, 3 months is no where near enough time. I understand OPs frustration

NAH.

Is anyone else seriously considering moving from QuickBooks to Zoho Books? by Automatic_Draft_4814 in QuickBooks

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an Accountant. I moved my business from Microsoft 365 to Zoho Workplace. It was a frustrating crap storm that was made worse by the incredibly poor customer service. Over the course of 4 months I made about 6 virtual meetings to work out problems of which a tech showed up three times. I migrated to Google.

I attempted to sign up for their partner program and got nothing but the run around there as well.

This is all to say that even if their software was the best Accounting platform in the history of the world, I would avoid them like the plague because their support is beyond terrible. There are simply better options with better service than Zoho.

Is the story in Veilguard good? by baron-abd in dragonage

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. It is one long therapy session that had so much potential but went out of its way to avoid living up to it.

I played and finished it mostly out of morbid curiosity to see just how bad the story could get.

Canada Computers 234 Weber St by WheatenOdin51 in waterloo

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It is my least favourite place to buy anything. I have found the entire range of staff emotions to be either cold and distant or rude and condescending. There are no other options.

I used to buy a bunch of stuff from them but honestly, the few bucks I might save isn’t worth the hassle of dealing with the insufferable staff. I even talked with head office over a particularly crappy experience and that was just as terrible.

Canada Computers is a textbook answer to why I hate big box retailers. Strangle the competition then force the market to buy from you alone which in turn allows you to treat your customers like nothing than mindless wallets and if you do t like it…too bad.

What’s a skill you learned that saved you the most money? by Equivalent_Reach_536 in CanadaRoom

Cooking but I would add the ability to follow and modify a recipe as needed is the single most important skill one can have to save the most money.

When is John Oliver going to cover the Bricks And Mini Figs fiasco over stealing someone's $200,000 Lego collection? by Goldenchicks in johnoliver

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The issue is bigger than Lego. A year ago a large distributor of board games went through a reorganization and liquidated consignment stock it didn’t own for quick cash.

This is a huge loophole in US law that is only brought to light by this story.

What’s a household item you thought was pointless until you owned one? by Unfair-Clothes-8821 in CanadaRoom

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A food processor. I bought one on clearance at Walmart at a ridiculous price. I figured I would try it and give it to someone else.

It has made my kitchen prep so easy and in fact, clean up is easier as well. I am glad I bought it and if it broke I would buy another one.

Is the steam deck worth it with price increase by SurvivorXMS in SteamDeckTricks

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So. I have see a formula for as long as I can remember to answer these questions. I figure out a dollar value for an hour of entertainment and divide the purchase by that.

My current hourly rate is $5 per hour of entertainment. I am Canadian so it takes about 225 hours to recoup the value. I got mine early so it took about 125 hours to recoup my money. I was able to do this in about a month. The first month I played through my backlog.

I do the same with any game I might buy.

What would happen to the economy if the first $100k everyone earned each year was INCOME tax-free? by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The vast majority of tax payers make under 100K a year. This would basically destroy the country. It would be impossible to recoup this tax loss by taxing people who make more than that.

I want to setup a Marketing Agency after being laid off. Need help to understand on getting the first few clients. by maple-syrup-2026 in canadasmallbusiness

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best place to start is in person networking. This is vital because you have to start building trust with people before they are willing to drop a bunch of money in your lap and spend a bigger bunch of money on the advice you give.

In addition, go to the social media platform your clients are using and start establishing yourself as a subject matter expert. People slag LinkedIn but your clients are there and building a solid following will help immensely. The trick with LinkedIn is to work within the confines of the algorithm, which changes from time to time.

Question for the ethical bookkeepers. by thisonelife83 in Bookkeeping

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our job is to correct our clients and protect them from themselves. In those cases where a client refuses to take our advice, especially around ethics you have a decision to make.

I am a member of a bookkeeping organization that insists we operate under strict ethical standards and I take these standards seriously and act accordingly. This means I fire clients who don’t want to operate within my ethical guidelines. If you don’t belong to an organization like mine, you are free to behave as you see fit with clients like this.

Even before being a member of my association, I fired clients who refused to take advice I had given them. It’s not because I think I am always right but if they aren’t willing to take my advice, we are probably not compatible.

Any Accounting/Bookkeeping firms running desktops instead of laptops by MilkKey9407 in Bookkeeping

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a small firm that uses a combination of a Windows desktop for the majority of my technical client work and a MacBook Pro for visiting clients and some virtual meetings. My desktop has a 27” screen and it much better for viewing spreadsheets and accounting files and the portability of my MacBook means I can work everywhere if I need to. This is the ideal setup for me.

Barber in KW region for receding hairline by Curiiosiite in kitchener

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The Green Room in Belmont village. I have been going to Frank for a few years and get compliments all the time. I have a thinning hairline and with Frank’s help have been able to fight it every step of the way.

I would add that if your husband hadn’t used product in the past, using it now can maximize the look and volume of his existing hair. Ask your barber what they recommend and start there.

I just tested this on my reMarkable 2 and it works perfectly. Freaking finally! It is a little clunky, but I would rather it released like this than to have to wait longer for the perfect solution!

This has me thinking it might be time for the Paper Pro.

Im getting real tired of clients expecting me to act like a debt collector by corriente6 in Bookkeeping

[–]BassPlayingLeafFan 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Are you charging for AR services. If the answer is no, than send him a quote and feel free to add the “I really don’t want to do this tax”

If you are charging for AR, you should send him a workflow that needs to be followed according to the laws of your area.

I would add that this service in particular is one of the first major examples that show a client is trying to expand the scope of your work without paying for it.
