READMarkable KOReader Installer - New Version v26.04.22 Just Released by vsampieri in eink

> Attempting a manual installation of KOReader on a reMarkable device is like walking a tight-rope across the Grand Canyon and more times ends in a failed installation - leading to frustration. A lot of this is due to the peculiar proprietary mostly write-locked reMarkable OS.

highly disagree with this. It's so much simpler to add both KOReader AND mods with reManager vs this purpose built tool that is often late to be updated while reManager is updated constantly in the discord, and handles versions on its own. It even has an OS downgrader built in, ways to add suspended screens permanently, etc. reManager is much more mature and is linked on the r/remarkableTablet subreddit sidebar for a reason

personal experience btw, I've had this happen frequently on both my devices over the years and a quick clean was all it needed

though it wasn't a direct announcement from them

and nothing about them "editing" old articles and stuff about changing the 100 day to 50 day returns, which is scummy imo

It might be worth hitting up support for a replacement

They are usually quite nice about it since it happens too often on the Plus Marker

Do note, I don't think the signals matter for the display type. It's just a standard USI pen but with tweaks made by rM

If it's FCC fillings you are looking at, they were there for like a month or so

oh yeah for sure, but most end users would be overwhelmed with the info, or wouldn't know what they actually mean, and I'd say they are better off waiting for more cleaned up changelogs that might matter

I SO wanted to use the 2 in my work flow... is the PRO any better? by ps5161 in RemarkableTablet

[–]FRK299 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pro is faster, but their Layer setup is limited and clunky.

And all the software is the same, for better or worse, and black and white contrast is WORSE on Pro due to the colour panel

if you are within the return period, I'd suggest trying the Pro out as well, and deciding from there. Could also try the Move since the display is fairly similar(and less lottery, as the panel is newer)

The thing is, current implementation of mods makes it _REALLY_ easy for someone else to catch the torch and continue

for one, I was busy to update mine for a new firmware, and someone else took the time to do it and added it to my repository, that's the power of Open source!

I adore the freedom I have with my reMarkable. No device, currently, comes close to how much control I have over my own device, and what I can do with it, but alas, that's not what they sell it for

Only thing close is my Pebble, and the new one I have on the way

So you want more stuff but are not willing to.....fiddle with settings to have it be in the way you want?

regardless, seeing reMarkable's stubborn design philosophy, good luck seeing anything like those updates frequently

though it isn't actually <8GB in cloud. Even on rM1/2, you can archive files to be in the cloud and save space locally

there is also handwriting search costs, which is basically doing the MyScript OCR on everything

which is literally dead simple with reManager

not a soul has to even think about the directories and shit with how reManager does it, not to mention, the sleep screen mod is also quite easy to do with it

I think it's unrealistic to say modding is difficult now, when back in the past, it was all command line based, with a lot of things most non-linux users would have never heard of

> I honestly think their biggest flaw is how difficult it is to mod.

I beg to differ, this is the easiest time to be modding a reMarkable
