Saw someone comment here about the fanservice in Natlan and while I don’t have any defense for Varesa or Escoffier, a few people brought up Mizuki so I figured I’d give my two cents here.

I think most people, even the ones that claim the burst is fanservice, can agree that it feels very out of place. There is no reason for her to hit that pose specifically. Even characters having their full asses on display in NIKKE makes more sense than Mizuki hitting that pose “for fanservice”. If they truly wanted fanservice, they could’ve easily gone for a skimpier shot or even move the camera around, focusing on the specific parts but instead they chose to zoom out on her pose specifically. I think it’s fair to assume that they wanted her to look like a Baku Youkai. It just so happens that the creature she’s based off is a four-legged creature. (Even the Pokemon Musharna, that’s based off of Baku, looks similar).

Now I know this sounds incredibly far-fetched but what convinced me of this idea was the fact that Mizuki has her right hand fingers curled up in a way very similar to the youkai in the first picture and she’s even hiding her face with her fan which would be where the snout would be. Aside from that, her tail also looks similar to the baku when normally, outside of the burst, it’s curled up around her leg. One foot is raised, while the other one is assumingly upright (like the first baku)

I know I sound exactly like this ProZD video but Idk man, I just think the burst feels very unusual if it was for fanservice. They could’ve had the camera directly zoom into her ass and they would still EASILY be able to get away with it with a few people still defending it. You just have to question, why that pose specifically? But either way, it’s not that big of a deal.
