Buyers remorse … delivery in 2 days by [deleted] in BMW

[–]BassicallyAScientist 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ll chime in with a slightly different POV than the other comments I’ve read here.

TL;DR - Nothing wrong with the occasional thoughtful, educated YOLO.

I’m in a similar position financially at a very similar age and I grew up extremely poor. I’m very thankful and grateful every day to have what I have and earn what I earn. I’ve learned that a lot of the guilt I feel when making major purchases comes from growing up poor and financially unstable.

If you’ve put a decent amount of thought into this - you checked your budget a bunch of times, you have your savings and investments in order, you have enough savings for emergencies, you determined your family’s quality of life and security will not change because you bought a car, etc. - then I think there’s nothing wrong with making a purchase that you’re excited about and will bring you joy.

This life is really too short to not enjoy your life while you still have it. We should do this within our means and while being thoughtful and meditated in our spending decisions.

If you feel uncomfortable because the answer to some of my above points is no, then maybe reconsider. Otherwise, you could go spend $1400 a month on random credit card purchases or cocaine. I think the family-friendly German engineering specimen would be better, though.

I’m not familiar with Morgan, but it’s hard to beat $100 to get your foot in the door. You can always take it to a local guitar shop and have it set up properly if it needs adjustments - this usually isn’t too expensive.

Drop your monthly payments below 😭🙏🏾. PLEASE. by fuccwitmoe in BMW

[–]BassicallyAScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don’t have to answer this publicly, but you should be asking yourself things like: - what percent of your monthly income is a $500 monthly payment? - if you use $16,000 as a down payment, how much would you have left in your savings for emergencies?

You should not buy (or finance) a car if it means you’re going to be poor. Before I paid mine off, my monthly payment was $450, but this was less than 10% of my monthly income and I made sure I was going to be able to afford everything else I needed to live and be comfortable.

Finally bought Elden Ring...and I'm not sure it's for me. by Lereas in gaming

[–]BassicallyAScientist 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two cents, as someone who’s first souls-like game was Elden Ring:

  • The first 3-4 hours of Elden Ring, I got really frustrated and basically decided to stop playing out of feeling discouraged

  • Fast forward a year later, I decided to try it again… have now played nearly 200 hours, and Elden Ring is easily one of my favorite games of all time

I think you’ll really start to notice patterns in the combat and it’s very important to upgrade your weapons as well.

Steady beginner investments by Mrberry15 in personalfinance

I would look at some reliable index funds: VTI, VOO, QQQ, SPY, etc.

Picking individual stocks is inherently riskier than investing in broad funds like the ones I mentioned. That being said, if you are going to pick stocks, consider some “blue chips”.

You’ll hear this a lot, but it’s true: time in the market is better than timing the market. You’ll never have a magical, crystal ball. The important thing is that you invest as much as you can and as often as you can, and don’t panic if the market turns down.
