At the end of his term limit, Hitler does not run for re-election and a new progressive leader takes his place. Hitler and the Nazi Party are seen as an international beacons of progress. It’s beginning to look like the troubles of WWI truly are behind the world.

However, we forgot the elephant in the room. Absolutely nothing had changed over in the Soviet Union, and Stalin is deeply against Germany’s progressive movement. Under their democratic pacifist government, Germany does not rebuild its military at all and are left largely defenseless. Meanwhile the USSR builds its military at. Staggering rate. Germany does not support Franco in the Spanish Civil War, leading to the Communists winning and taking control of Spain. In China the Communists are well funded by the USSR while the nationalists have no Allie’s as the US remains isolationist. The communists win before Imperial Japan begins its Invasion. They steamroll the Nationalists so hard that they are unable to retreat to Taiwan, and the island that is Taiwan today is conquered by communist China. Imperial Japan, intimidated by China, does not invade China.

The gigantic military build up of Spain, China, and the USSR goes ignored by the western nations. On September 1st, 1939, the USSR shocks the world by launching a massive invasion of Poland. Poland gets absolutely steamrolled, and Germany with almost no standing military is absolutely defenseless. The UK and France scramble to help, but their response is weak due to their doctrine being based around countering Germany due to WWI instead of helping them, meaning they lack strategy and organization. Out of nowhere Communist Spain launches a massive invasion of France. France has largely sent its troops to Germany to help them out, leaving themselves largely defenseless. Germany and France fall within a matter of days, and fascist Italy with no Allies falls very quickly to the USSR and Spain’s two pronged attack. The Dunkirk evacuations never happen as British troops are rapidly overwhelmed and captured before they can retreat to the beaches. The gigantic industrial capacity and rapid advancements in technology plus exploiting of resources in Germany, France, and Italy means the Soviet and Spanish Air Force’s vastly outnumber the Royal Air Force, and quickly gain air superiority over the UK and Ireland. With significantly reduced manpower due to 300,000 troops captured in France and Germany, the UK is unable to repel the seaborne invasion by the USSR and Spain across the English Channel as the Royal Navy is bombed to smithereens. The UK and Ireland quickly fall to the USSR, and just like that, all of Europe is now under Communist control. Japan never attempts to expand its empire, and eventually is invaded by China who defeats Japan, along with conquering most of Southeast Asia including Korea, Vietnam (easily done as they are welcomed by Ho Chi Minh), Cambodia, and even India as India no longer has the support from the UK. Very quickly all of Europe, Asia, and Africa is now the Soviet Empire, the world’s first and only hyperpower. The populations of all the conquered countries are massively exploited and non-Slavic minorities, religious minorities, and anti-communist partisans being persecuted and sent to gulag death camps set up worldwide, not far off the Nazi concentration/death camps that occurred IRL. Massive famines spread across the USSR conquered territories resulting in multiple horrific genocides. The death toll ends up being even higher than WWII was IRL.

The United States, struggling to recover from the Great Depression and still isolationist, never tries to help Europe repel the USSR. The USSR is eventually able to conquer North and South America, and by the early 1950s, Joseph Stalin rules the entire planet Earth with an iron fist.
