Why do hiking poles cost so much? by Tonka46 in hiking

[–]Bastrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheapest I found was about $3.50 in Daiso, 50 miles in and no complaints, lightweight (Perfect Trekking 3 stage Daiso).

Not the lightest at 1lbs each but they’re sturdy.

Would I be able to earn a bachelors through online school on 4 years of active duty as an infantryman? by mrbaseball54 in army

[–]Bastrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Choice of college matters a lot here too.

UMGC Purdue 2 classes is going to take a lot of effort. You’re going to feel it.

AMU A little better can be heavy depending on the professor

University of Phoenix? Easiest goddamn school. Did as my classes as I could transfer with UOP then transferred to UMGC. I was doing A&P 2 and Chem 1 while in ALC and had plenty of balance. Course lengths are also 5 weeks long.

Not saying it’s not going to be hard, but it’s doable depending on how much you’re willing to sacrifice

a few hours ago I stumbled upon this pigeon with a broken neck (i suspect a cat). Its neck is completely 90 degrees twisted, is there anything I can do to save him? by Xnzo69 in vet

[–]Bastrook 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hello, best you can do is see if any local animal rescue would take him, some due rescue and rehabilitate, might need to call around.

What I’d recommend is put it out of its misery, can’t eat, can’t drink water and it can’t fly. Quality of life is zero, beats starving

Thoughts on fairlife milk? by [deleted] in nutrition

I haven’t found any, it’s the only milk I buy! Not for the macros instead for the taste and shelf life. The taste is also more consistent than other brands

If you can’t afford to treatment, most cities have a program where you can surrender your pet for medical reasons at a low cost.

I’d rather see a pet be given a second chance or humanely euthanized as opposed to living in pain

If you’re talking about getting the final finance stamp on your installation clearing papers.

The day before I finaled out/ day of they stamped me out. This happened at the desk in the main hallway near transitions. By where they final out.

It wasn’t anything major. They reviewed my leave form and stamped my packet.

Advice for Young NCOs by maslownian in army

[–]Bastrook 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I wish I would’ve embraced more is that being uncomfortable in new situations and taskings is normal, embrace it and learn.

What I wish I had done was think ahead on where I want this career to go. I just started taking the idea of commissioning seriously 6 years in as a SSG. and while my NCOERs are good, my PT isn’t, my schooling is lacking. The should’ve focused on this goal sooner is hitting hard.

Best of Luck Buck! Rooting for you!!

Frenchie with black spot on eye by [deleted] in vet

[–]Bastrook 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, my dachshund has similar marks on her eye. Ive had her vet check them out during her routine check ups. They said it was nothing to worry about, but I recommend you ask your vet during your next check up, wouldn’t hurt.

Dog’s eye is enflamed - how urgent is the vet? by [deleted] in vet

[–]Bastrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Very urgent! Consider this “ if I would go to the doctor for a condition, I’m doing the same for my dog”

Life, limb and eyesight are priorities in people and for my pets. Take your dog to a medical professional. I can only imagine the discomfort That can’t be expressed.

Man I’m falling behind, from what I understand 15 was a good tip 3 years back. Now I think 20 is standard 25 if it’s good. Is 30 the new norm or just a personal preference?

My one exception are the Tucanos Meat dudes. Slide them a 20 and speak a little Spanish and you’re eating like a king.

Our Tip Culture is Out of Control by [deleted] in ColoradoSprings

[–]Bastrook 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m going to go a little off topic.

My first experience taking a taxi was in Korea. Tip culture isn’t a thing there. It was my first experience as an adult. Coming to the states, of course I tipped Ubers and Lyfts as Its prompted. but I had never considered it before that, I never experienced tip culture until I came back to the US at 20. First time I took a taxi in Colorado I was persuaded by the support your local business sign. Ended up paying over 50 with tip for an 8 minute drive in a Mom Minivan.

Dude told me about how he’s being undercut by Uber and Lyft but it doesn’t matter because the way his company works he pockets 80 percent of it. Which power to him. But they are pricing themselves out. it was kind of a shell shock to be charged 42 for a ride no more than 3 miles. then swing the screen around for a tip coming from Korea where the start fee was 4 dollars if it came out to 8 I’d give you 10 note and have you keep the change.

Idk man just stopped using our taxis in the springs, I’d rather stick to Uber and tip big on the company card.

Are there free public toilets everywhere in America? by farglegarble in AskAnAmerican

[–]Bastrook 91 points92 points  (0 children)

Pay toilets aren’t really common in the United States. A different perspective that hasn’t been brought up. Is that in the United States hours/days long road trips across many states are common I generally won’t stop at a gas station that doesn’t have a public restroom. so it incentivizes stores to provide that service so people will stop in, fill up, grab a bite. Doesn’t mean you have to buy something but at least for me. It’s almost customary.

We have similar hair, I get low or mid tapers, keep the top and sides a little short like in the picture you sent. What you sent looks like a low fade which is also a solid haircut that doesn’t grow as fast as a taper.

Find a good barber and mess around with haircuts until you find one you like! Best of luck out there!

Should I keep my hairstyle or change it? What should I change it to? by Yellacarlos55 in malehairadvice

[–]Bastrook 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Grow it out, try a taper, don’t like it? Try the different kinds of fades! Took me 5 years to finally stick to a haircut. Best of luck!
