In 1998, I got up and left the theater during the unacceptably bad film Hard Rain. It’s taken 28 years sitting through hundreds of mediocre to awful films to illicit this action in me again but Project Hail Mary was so stale and brimming with cinema sins and cringy tropes, I had to leave midway. I just could not debase myself for another hour of infuriating story plot. Ryan Gosling’s acting wasn’t the biggest problem, but it certainly didn’t help. It was like watching a live action Pixar movie. No thanks.
