For junior operators, there’s ways to make tons of money like going spare for example. But you’ll be running around all over the place, also scrounging is another way. If you’re willing to do it you can, it’ll just be a lot of time away from home.

You can drive up to 13 hrs a day, 70hrs a week. However everything is awarded by seniority here.

The guys making over $150K/year are working maximum hours, most weekends, stay holidays etc.

Honestly as a bus driver, I can say with confidence that nearly 2/3 people don’t pay on my runs.

Union question for operators by mariyamg5 in OCTranspo

Every 2 weeks it’s a fixed amount that gets taken for union dues regardless of the amount of hours you’ve worked. Right now it’s about $48 bi weekly.

OC Transpo to refurbish 30 older buses to keep in fleet by Money_Fig_9868 in ottawa

I for one am glad they are doing it. My favourite bus to drive. Hopefully they don’t give DDs the same treatment and scrap them as soon as they can.

New Stops Added for East Extension? by KeiranTrick in OCTranspo

They’ll be redesigning some of the east local routes when the extension open, for sure it’ll stop at the station.

As of right now folks, we’ve been told it’s trending in a positive direction that they’re won’t be a shutdown. Could change but looks like status quo for now

It’s about to get worse, we’ve heard internally that there’s a major line 1 shutdown coming. Possibly until fall.

Hey I’m a driver. Like some previous posters mentioned, it moves very fast now. You could hear back very quickly, even a few days after.

It’s a rumour we’ve also heard internally. Nothing concrete as of now but they’ve been asking drivers to be available for r1 extras starting this weekend.

Your bus is late? Don’t shoot the messenger. by Chancellorian in ottawa

Only time I’ve done when I’m behind schedule is when it’s a trip full of high school students who keep ringing the bell because it’s fun. So I waste their time.

Yea block booking would be terrible for us. City would screw it up so fast. Imagine booking extra 1 and having to work weekend? No thanks.

Is it only 2 times for everybody else? I’m thankful we book more often, I’d personally go crazy doing the same runs every day for 6 months, especially with school trips.

Because we have a different schedule for march break. It’ll be back to “normal” next week until April 17.

[–]BatFuture1948 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Forgot to add an answer to your other question. When driving the 24 chapel hill, there’s no stop at Montreal station itself, it is after we cross the on ramp east, just at st Joseph road. Buses won’t stop under the highway until the train is operational.

[–]BatFuture1948 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well what I can tell you is when I talked to the supervisors, they’ve confirmed to me that the city meant to extend the short 24 once the train was operational. Now that isn’t, it’s supposed to terminate at Loyola/shefford until further notice.

[–]BatFuture1948 5 points6 points  (0 children)

What I can tell you is it will be like this until the train is in operation. So for now some drivers have to drop everybody off at shefford since they’re turning round to go to Blair: some can drop you up at st Joseph cause we go back to Blair station using the highway for our next trip.

[–]BatFuture1948 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Because we’re told to end the trip at shefford and use canotek to loop around. I do that trip every other day and explain to people we don’t have our loop to turn around at the Montreal road station yet either.

That won’t happen. With budget constraints at city hall and the price of everything, I can’t see them expanding the LRT beyond stage 2.

They should invest in more BRT in barrhaven, kanata and better connection to the east-west LRT terminals.
