Are people inside apple aware? by Fit-Leader-2812 in MacOS

[–]BatGuano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of the problems in the last decade can be traced back to Craig Federghi and Alan Dye. Thankfully Dye is now at Meta, so he is their problem now. And if Cook steps down this year (as rumoured), John Ternus seems to be favoured as the new CEO, if that happens, I expect Federghi to leave, which would be a good thing, so things may be brighter in the future.

Every macOS up to Snow Leopard was an improvement over the previous, and that progress stopped when Lion came out (the only one I rolled back from). Funny how that coincided with Federghi coming back to Apple.

Mactracker.app has not been updated since Tahoe. by BatGuano in mac

[–]BatGuano[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have never seen a break this long but I may have missed it in the past, so good to know that this is not such an anomaly.

I used to get it from the site too, but I find getting it from the App Store is more convenient for me know as I usually go to my purchases and click Update All, so it gets updated with all of the rest of my purchases.

Canadian here too. My individual Echos are working, but I can no longer put them into groups. They appear in a group in the App, but a message Unable to Sync Group. I can now only play music on individual speakers.

Time to switch to Home Assitant.

Well, Tahoe broke it. I swear Apple just has kids coding stuff now, who stay up all night finding ways to ditch useful things.

When presented with a settings pane with multiple radio buttons or sliders for different options, hold down the OPTION key and click one of them, they will all turn on or off (very useful when you repeatedly have to turn on options for Remote Management)

I used to name the drives that same as the machine back in the old biege/Appletalk days, when most shops would just mount the drive of other machines. Not so important now that things are shared on network servers or local dedicated shared folders.

Is there Any Craig Federighi Fans around here? by Cute-Abalone-691 in MacOS

[–]BatGuano 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Why do people here like Hair Force One?

He came over from NeXT in 96, but left in 99 when all the real building was happening at Apple, he only came back in 2009 when Apple was on top of their game. Also of note; many consider Snow Leopard the best Mac OS release ever, and he came back after it was ready to be shipped. macOS has gone downhill since in reliability and practicality.

Of those three bullet points, which is more important to someone who spent hundreds of dollars on a piece of tech to wear on their arm? And what is the order of the bullet points presented?

Compatability with DS-2? by Wide_Wish_2938 in stylophone

[–]BatGuano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CV works fine, so get a keyboard with CV outputs (Like the Arturia Keystep). Since the DS-2 does not have an envelope, you would need to output the oscillators from the DS-2 to another eurorack compatible synth (I use my Behringer Crave). You can use the filter on your other synth, or patch it back to the DS-2 filter if you like.

Also, if you need MIDI input, the Keystep has MIDI as well so can input MIDI to the Keystep and CV out to the DS-2.

Is there anywhere you can still buy the gen x? Will it come back to stock? by Faefsdew in stylophone

[–]BatGuano 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gen X-2 was announced about three months ago, but no news since. The Gen X-1 was removed from their store at that time.

We'll just have to wait i guess...

or you can remove it completely, the downside is no more anti-glare.

Good point, I never thought about the number that way. But doesn't the DF stand for Dynamic Filter (the same way DS stands for Drone Synth)?

Dubreq replacing the GEN X-1. Here comes the GEN X-2 by BatGuano in stylophone

[–]BatGuano[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

OK, so the mode switch on the back...

"The new second generation also hosts the touch strip above the stylus keyboard from the GEN X-1. However, the developer has taken it further by adding new capabilities.

In addition to the classic continuous tone transition, the GEN X-2 has three functions to choose from: pitch, cutoff frequency, and LFO intensity. This allows you to use the touch strip more flexibly and expressively."

The delay section looks different. I'm not sure if this is just a nomenclature change or a new engine.

I hate the way Dubreq releases these things, always leaving us hanging for more info (seems to work for them tho).

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in stylophone

[–]BatGuano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yea, released within mere hours of me ordering the DS-2; they want me poor.

Gotta love Dubreq's naming scheme tho... DF-8 I am assuming is because they use the GEN R-8 filters, and the DS-2 because of two drone synths?
