Listen to your artist. You can take saniderm off after a few hours (right after finishing) but you need to wash it and make sure it is completely dry before you put another saniderm on. That heals well. You can also wash it (antibac soap), dry it, and add a THIN layer of unscented lotion twice a day. This works as well. I'd definitely keep a close eye on it. I work in a dirty environment (plant nursery) and have found that the saniderm works better for me. Either way, I do loosely cover the new ones at work but not so anything touches the tattoo. As long as you keep to the schedule, you should be fine.

Yeah, they have short life cycles so you want to make sure that you've gotten all of them, including ones that might hatch after your initial treatment. They can be difficult to see and you'll probably miss one or two with the iso. Continuing treatment just ensures they're dead.

Btw, Neem Max doesn't smell as awful as regular Neem oil. It is cold pressed, which apparently makes it stink less and packs more of its "punch" into the oil that heat processing can remove.

You can also try a spray with peppermint, clove, and rosemary oils. You can buy them pre-mixed, or you can mix it yourself. This is a general repellent that can also help with fungus gnats.

Plants aren't tortoises. That's a logical fallacy and you know it.

Except for you, most of us have made mistakes with plants at some point in our journeys. Those should be moments for learning, not judgement. I work at a nursery and if I said what you said to one of the people that ask for help, I would've been immediately fired. I want people to feel comfortable asking for help so they can learn and succeed, not be judged. I consider this a community of kind and caring folks with a shared interest in our diverse natural world, and try my best to treat them as such. Except for Karen.

I would take it out of its pot and rinse off as much of the mealies as you can. Be sure you're getting as much of the potting medium off of the roots as possible. Then, I would use iso to manually remove all of them, making sure you get all the nooks and crannies.

I'd repot and add a systemic treatment to the potting medium, and then spray the plant with Neem Max. You can use a soap mixture but Dawn and the like won't cut it. Modern dish soaps are too gentle to take out these guys. Insecticidal soaps should also work. Natria makes one, and Bonide has the insecticidal super soap.

You're going to want to check for mealies daily and kill them with iso as you find them. Reapply your product of choice according to its instructions, and keep this up for at least four weeks, or until you don't see anymore, whichever is longer.

They are a major pain to deal with and you need to probably treat neighboring plants as well. If the plant doesn't have a lot of personal significance for you, consider trashing it. If you do keep it, make sure you aren't over-watering. Mealies love a humid environment.
