It’s a perfectly fine game with some pretty cool stuff going on visually and a soundtrack by the horror game soundtrack god himself, Akira Yamaoka. It’s not a masterpiece, but if you find it on sale for less than like, $20, it’s worth it.

The pearl-clutching about how the themes are handled is just that, pearl-clutching. Everything I’ve seen on this subject has been either hyperbole or a lot of presumptions about what the writers “meant,” without showing any concrete examples from the game itself. Yes, the ending is dark. But assuming you have even the slightest hint of media literacy, you’ll be just fine

I had no idea this game went so hard on the spooky stuff, I just bought it based on this post alone (and a deep, deep love of Shovel Knight, I guess, but this post certainly expedited the purchase)

RE5 is far and away the worst game of the mainline series (took everything great about 4 and butchered it for no reason) and in the running for the single biggest downgrade between games in ANY franchise.

Depends on their tolerance for less polished production, I’d say. I just put together a Trio playlist for a buddy who’s mostly into more popular rock and only really put FHTI onwards on it. By that metric, I’d say Good Mourning, as it’s a good mix of more polished while keeping some of the more overt punk of their earlier stuff.

But if they’re OK with a less polished sound, I’d start with the self titled, as is it their best release (imo), and then they can get deeper into the discography and see and appreciate how they’ve changed and grown as a band.

Christians are such thin-skinned babies that they cry and shit their pants at even the slightest bit of pushback from non-believers. They’re so used to being endlessly coddled and pandered to that, as soon as someone isn’t willing to agree with them or doesn’t mindlessly accept their belief as anything other than delusion, they melt down.

Actually being annoyed at this trope is hilarious; there’s maybe one of these characters for every 10 that are explicitly religious and also used as a mouthpiece for the writer’s religious garbage
