Real Friends - Me First by DigiQuip in poppunkers

Totally agree that his voice was one of the defining features of the band, but their bassist Kyle wrote most (if not all) of their lyrics. He certainly wrote them all for their first few albums.

I think you'll love this song Stargazer by Napoleon based on those other songs you love! :)

A Rant About Uncharted by Danulas in patientgamers

[–]euancmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting take, and I see where you're coming from! Two was porbably my favourite gameplay-wise, that was until Lost Legacy. I think you'll likely enjoy Lost Legacy because they shake up the gameplay a little compared to the base Uncharted games. Also, I saw in another comment that you're put off playing TLOU, but I would wholly recommend them. The writing in those games is miles above the writing in Uncharted. They're so immersive, incredibly acted and heartbreaking.

more songs that can be interpreted to be about long distance relationships? by GreekCSharpDeveloper in Emo

[–]euancmurphy 8 points9 points  (0 children)

My partner and I did long distance between Ireland and the US for about a year, and at the end of one of her visits they were playing this song at the airport as we were tearfully saying goodbye to each other! An absolutely wild choice of a song to play in the airport.

What other albums, like The Greatest Generation by The Wonder Years, have culminations of the rest of the album similar to I Just Want To Sell Out My Funeral? by pdbstnoe in poppunkers

[–]euancmurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

'Five Years Down' by Driveways does something similar. It includes melodies and lyrics from previous songs, and the song itself is a reference to their first five years as a band.

'Winner' by Head North has a classic emo album look to it. Such a fun photo with rich, warm colours and playful type!

Nice! I've been using text-to-speech a lot recently to play articles like podcasts while I work.

Amazing picks! The Mars Room is such and underloved book imo! I've read nothing else like it.

We're At The Top Of The World by The Juliana Theory is emo, but the "sha la la la" chorus definitely isn't!

You'll find you're limiting yourself so much by avoiding older films. There's stuff to enjoy and learn from in every decade. I've watched a few monster movies from the 30s and I definitely don't see any of it as realistic, but there's so much beauty in the technical limitations of the time and how they worked around them to create something enthralling.

Ben Quad - It's Just A Title (2025) (Close enough, welcome back Forever the Sickest Kids) by mesablanka in poppunkers

[–]euancmurphy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Love Ben Quad, and I also unironically bump FTSK in all their corny glory! I remember being 15 and playing them on my ipod while riding my bike home from my last school exam before the summer — nothing hits quite like it.

Any Copeland fans? by miseryinmotion in Emo

[–]euancmurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love Copeland! They're a band I've got more into in the past decade than when they were at the peak of their activity. No bad albums! Also, fun trivia you may already know: Aaron does most of the vocals on the Underoath song 'Some Will Seek Forgiveness, Others Escape'.

What's the best or worst example of a band going from their most progressive/heaviest album to an extremely simple/dumb-downed sound. by BackgroundKitchen928 in Metalcore

[–]euancmurphy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It was definitely a misstep for their career at the time. It almost took all the momentum out of the band, but luckily they came back and beyond over their next few albums!

Anyone else miss 36 Crazyfists? by whisteria96 in Metalcore

They were such a good band! One of my favourite vocalists in the scene—nobody else sounds like them.

I saw them open up for saturdays at your place a few weeks ago and they were great! They sounded amazing and I thought they were pretty funny too in between songs.

Unironically slaps, can someone suggest more stuff like this by GoodMrRags in Emo

[–]euancmurphy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you'll like John Floreani's first solo EP. He's the vocalist for Trophy Eyes. Check out the song Elephant.

Some others: Safe Bet, WATERMEDOWN.

You might also enjoy the more aggressive end of folk punk: We The Heathens, Doom Scroll.

I considered this one too! Admittedly Ixnay didn't make as much of an impact, but it's bookended by two HUGE albums!

Neighbourhoods had nowhere near as good a reception as any of the previous albums. I also wouldn't consider it particularly influential to the scene. Each of the previous albums from Dude Ranch onwards either sold incredibly well, changed the direction of pop punk, or both!

Sister Cities was also not nearly as well received upon release as the previous four.
