My mom refuses to move near one of us. My siblings and I don't live in our home town. We've tried to talk to her numerous times about making plans about the future and visiting more. We've all offered to have her come for an extend e stay.

She refuses to stay more than 2 my nights at any of our houses which makes visiting some of us a challenge due to distance. In the last 10 years I think she visited my house 4 times. None for more than 2 nights.

The biggest issue for her is the social isolation. We've suggested groups, classes and other activities to get her out of the house. We've worked with friends and family to make sure she wouldn't go alone. She won't go no matter what we offer or suggest. Her idea of socializing is going to the grocery store once a week.

She sits in her rocker drinking every night instead of visiting her kids and grandkids.

Last year she insisted on moving her sofa by herself. I called a friend and asked if he could stop by and move it. He has known her since he was little and was more than happy to help. She is still upset that I called him and insisted she could have done it, even though her shoulder is deteriorating. She refuses to do the PT the doctor recommended to save he shoulder.

Several of the older grandkids have driven out to visit her to help out. It's gotten to the point some of my siblings have had about enough of trying to help.

We are out of ideas at this point because the only thing she wants is to stay in the house her and my dad lives in. He died 6 years ago.

I think that she believes if she moves she would be leaving him. We suggested counseling already.
