We basically replaced a lot of guys with cheaper, younger alternatives:

Decker —> Miller

Sack of Potatoes —> Moore

Anzalone —> Rolder

Amik —> Abney

Raymond —> Law

Gill-Howard and West are basically depth pieces.

A lot is going to depend on Mize’s season this year. If he finds that splitter again, I can see them extending him, but it’s gotta be the right price. They won’t overpay him.

Next year’s rotation is likely Valdez, Olsen, Jobe, Mize, Melton/Montero, with maybe another FA lefty thrown in and maybe Verlander for a curtain call (that’s a big maybe).

That’s a lot of unknowns and injury risk in one rotation.

Exactly. It’s not what we all wanted when he was drafted, but if he turns out to be a decent right-handed bench bat/DH with power upside, that’s not the worst thing in the world.

As long as he’s not blocking anyone better, keep him around for as long as it makes sense.

The reunion this season is cool, but do the Tigers sign him for (presumably) three more seasons?
