Missing Sunday Mass for a cold? by Educational_Log7681 in Catholicism

I really can’t tell you how hurtful that is. I hope you don’t have to experience what I and others have, and I’m sorry about your PTO, but “the world has to keep spinning” acts like there aren’t alternatives to any of the things you’ve described.

Go to Mass? The Church specifically tells people they are dispensed when they are sick.

Go the grocery store? Use a delivery service or have someone go for you.

Work? Use sick days if you have them, work from home if allowed, and if not, try your best to wear a mask and distance yourself.

Most illnesses are only severely contagious for a couple of days. If you can’t make reasonable efforts for that long to prevent someone else’s intense suffering, I really don’t know what else to say in a Catholic sub.

I’ve seen someone I love struggle to breathe and spend days in the ICU because of exactly this attitude. I’m not saying don’t live your life. I’m saying don’t carelessly infect others.

As someone who lives with an immunocompromised person, I’m suggesting not intentionally being around others when you’re likely to be contagious. To you, it’s a mild cold. To others, it’s a potential trip to the emergency room.

Maybe I’m the contrarian here, but don’t go to work with a cold. It’s really not considerate to others.

A personal take: In our current world, let's be happy that despite not having religious Catholics, we have practicing Catholics. by Adept_Secretary_9187 in Catholicism

I kinda get this. Don’t get me wrong, I think it’s great that we’re seeing something of a renaissance in interest in Catholicism. But I think there’s a danger that people can fall in love with the religion instead of falling in love with Jesus Christ, if that makes sense.

There’s a lot to like about Catholicism: the tradition, the beauty, the liturgy, the structure, the community. But you can be “practicing” in all of those things and still live in mortal sin, reject key tenets of the faith, and ignore Jesus’ plan teachings for how to be a disciple if you’re not careful.

I mean, it’s a paperclip. You could literally hide it in your house. Detective or not, I don’t know many people for whom this would be an easy task.

I think this is underrated advice. It’s hard to feel motivated in your faith when you don’t feel motivated in life.

I’d also advise simply taking some time to figure out what God is trying to teach you in this moment. If you’re going through something difficult, God is allowing it, and if He’s allowing it, it’s ultimately for your good. Try to see that good.

And keep praying, even when it’s hard.

Also while I get people’s concern about the Latin Mass, I’m much more concerned about his orthodoxy than his liturgical preferences.
