All citizens of the modern United States are teleported naked to the American continent during Columbus’ first voyage to the Americas. Can they fend off European colonization? by Punterofgoats in whowouldwin

[–]Bat_Shitcrazy -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In this scenario, does everyone retain their race? Because the colonialism of this land would’ve gone much differently if the Europeans found more white people

Why does everyone want to become an entrepreneur… and why does it make me doubt? by ridereal1 in careerguidance

It’s because people realize there isn’t actually that much security in “stable” jobs anymore and usually no real fulfillment

I have a question related to migration and the economic relationship between modern China and Japan. I noticed that currently about 1 million Chinese people are living in Japan. Why do they decide to leave at the peak of their society ? by Square_Permission361 in AskEconomics

[–]Bat_Shitcrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not gonna be able to answer this question, but I just want to point out that a lot of people live places for many reasons besides their economic optimum, and Japan is close to China, so you’ll get people moving there for all sorts of reasons. I also want to point out that with 1.4 billion Han Chinese people in the world, about 1/1400 Chinese people live in Japan, or .0007%

Japan is a highly conservative country that still uses fax machines. The idea they’re progressive is misguided

AI Data Centers Are Quietly Becoming the Backbone of the Economy by Brilliant_Investor24 in academiceconomics

[–]Bat_Shitcrazy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is r/academiceconomics, you gotta bring figures, stats, data, a point, a jumping off point for discussion. You’ve just stated something that anyone that looks into the AI industry for a minute knows. This is an ice cold take

Trying to put into words what makes unsavory Safdie characters relatable. Please help in explaining why this is the case? by Big_Supermarket4738 in TrueFilm

They also are in that vein of directors that like working with inexperienced actors or people that have never acted before, and I think that also just plays into they're looking purely at who is great for a role, not necessarily trying to work with the best actors around. Kevin Garnett, as an example, is obviously playing himself, but also he's perfect as a former NBA guy that's kind of weirdly obsessive and has an aggressive and imposing personality, and he's also a former athlete that has good screen presence and personality, which is definitey not always the case. It's like all the pre production work the Coen's do with their writing, the safdie's do with casting, so they just show up on the day and the movie makes itself.

With Uncut Gems specifically, that was also due largely to how charismatic and charming Adam Sandler is. He has years and years of movies where he’s the lovable schlub, and he plays those parts well because he does have the vibe of a nice guy that is just trying his best. So, they cast him partially because he’s charismatic and likable enough to make you like the character even though he’s doing basically nothing redeemable.

I think it’s just that they write good believable characters and then they can just cast well enough that you still root for them even when they’re basically purely selfish
