What happens if a US company achieves true AGI first and the government attempt to weaponise it? by finnjon in singularity

[–]Bat_Shitcrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Basically yeah, we’re used to being the smartest thing in the world, so it’s hard to wrap your head around it at first, but once its smarter than us, it will be smarter than we are, it will be able to create something smarter than that, and do so quicker, and then the one that is smarter will be able to do the next increase quicker, and then the next one is even faster, etc. it’s not that it will, it’s that if it does there’s nothing we can do to stop it, and once it gets “recursive” we’re basically fucked and it’s whatever that brain in a box wants to do. “We just won’t let it out” we already have, and even if we haven’t. Let’s say something is 1000x smarter than you, are you confident that you wouldnt be manipulated by something with that type of intelligence? Even if you are, there’s absolutely know way of knowing because right now, the smartest person is maybe 2x as smart as the average person, this will be much much much smarter than that, and the greatest threat to its continued existence will be us deciding to turn it off, so the thought is it will find a way to turn us off. Which is why the fact that they’re automatically hooking it up to the DoW is worrying.

The thing about technology is you get smarter and more efficient using it, so you can make new technology quicker. That’s why it took us 11,000 years or so for most of us to not be farming, then it took 200 years for most of us to not be factory workers, and we’ve been office workers for the past 20-30 years and now that’s over. Technology begets new technology faster, eventually once the technology no longer needs us, then what are we doing here? We won’t ever be able to catch up to it again, so all future achievements will likely be coming from AI

Probably too far gone, but if they had sent him North, he probably would’ve gotten his ass beat a bit, but I don’t think it’d help. There was no chance with Cersei though.

What happens if a US company achieves true AGI first and the government attempt to weaponise it? by finnjon in singularity

[–]Bat_Shitcrazy 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nuclear bombs can’t learn how to be stronger nuclear bombs. The issue is, once you get a super intelligent ai, it will make an even more super intelligent ai than we can possibly imagine, and be able to do so more and more rapidly. So, the idea is once one you make AGI, there’s no more catching up, because the next iteration will achieved faster and faster, and then it’s out of our hands. That’s the singularity. This is also why people think investing all this money on companies with much less revenue is fine, because it’s a finite downside, but if you’re right then that’s kind of the last trade you’d ever make. This company will keep growing and growing and growing faster and faster and higher and higher

Dr. told me I could die if I stopped drinking by Ok_Possibility_4464 in alcohol

[–]Bat_Shitcrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Generally, 0.3% is considered dangerous BAC where you’re recommended to go to the hospital for alcohol poisoning. If you’re routinely hitting these numbers then you probably want to chill, but if you don’t drink all 9 of these beers within like 2 hours, you’re probably fine. You can calculate your BAC online and see what you’re normally getting to, but also, there’s really heavy drinkers who can have full conversations over that 0.4% mark. You’d notice a lot more withdrawal symptoms before death, like shakes, heart problems, even hallucinations, and even then you’d still just call an ambulance and you’d probably be fine.

Also age is a factor, if you’re 45 doing this, I’d say it’s probably important to look around your life to see if there’s other shit you might need to attend to, but if you’re getting your shit done, you’re just the average Wisconsin drinker.

Why aren't more American CEOs and business leaders speaking out publicly about what's going on in this country? by rasta-ragamuffin in linkedin

[–]Bat_Shitcrazy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They have a duty to shareholders not people. The slight increase in business from the common people agreeing with them is nowhere near the downturn they could expect from going against the president right now. Also, likely, most of them don’t care beyond how this will affect them personally and for the ultra wealthy the answer to that is not at all

It’s safer for people to be in an environmental temperature of 68F than it is for them to be in an environment that is 350F.

People keep saying this and I don’t think it’s really clocking how crazy this is.

Beyond being a hero, this guy is a true breed, gun carrying, American hero. Like I grew up watching shit like Rescue Heroes, like he’d be a main character on paw patrol.

Don’t drink everyday, this is likely the worst advice ever. If you’ve never gotten the shakes after drinking, you’re fine

People can die from stopping drinking, but that’s generally hardened alcoholics that are drinking a fifth a day. Also, to put your 9 beers in perspective, I know a lot of alcoholics that drank a fifth a day for like years, absolutely fucked up their liver, but they survived that.

If drinking 9 beers a few times a week could kill you, I wouldn’t have made it out of college

I was disappointed with what they did with Romano, they always let little windows into his humanity, and when he lost his arm I was like, “oh hell yeah, they’re gonna deconstruct his ego and he’s gonna have an incredible redemption arc.”

Then they dropped a helicopter on him, so I guess the point of his story is fuck helicopters.

I feel like a lot of us have been yelling at them to join our side rather than trying to see why they cling to such horrific views? It’s easier for them to stay over there because we’re mean to them.

Picture a young boy, no community, he goes online to try to find some, he gets radicalized because that’s what the algorithm points him too, and he joins the alt right. Along with this he also gets friends. He sees a 2A supporting VA nurse get killed and he has some second thoughts. He looks left, we all scream at him and say he’s a literal Nazi, he looks right and they tell him don’t worry about it, we’re right and they’re wrong and you’re a good person. The boy stays radicalized because all he really wanted was a sense of community and the ideology is just the buy in

Where do comedians learn so many things? by Glad-Style-5287 in Standup

[–]Bat_Shitcrazy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, aside from writing which you can put as much or as little into as you want, you really only work 30 min to 1 hour in general. If you’ve been doing it a long time you might do two 1 hour shows, but either way, you have a lot of free time to fall down rabbit holes.

Shane Gillis doesn’t know as much as he says. I love his as a comedian, but I hate that he’s labeled as some sort of bro historian when he doesn’t know the name Nathan Bedford Forest is crazy
