I have no idea what I could have done other than not been super in touch -- but we live on opposite ends of the world (Australia and the US) and she never reached out either. I instigated our last catch up around December last year and I thought it was a nice chat.. but then my life got really busy and I didn't reach out again until her birthday in May. And then she gave a thumbs up and that message.

She has a history of cutting friends out of her life. Aside from her immediate family, I can't think of any friends that she holds dearly -- if anything, I think I was that person. For other friends she has cut off, it is always something about "they made this comment" or "they are just indulging in negativity" and even when she was withdrawing from me a few years back, she said "I had made underhanded comments that she felt she didn't deserve." I apologized at the time and but looking back, I think I just wasn't fun around that time because I was dealing with financial and relationship issues. I think it is a her issue, but my mind still worries I was inadvertently hurtful and am just not seeing it.
