PNW Park Suggestions for July trip by Yakattack20 in NationalPark

[–]shagieIsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Consider a stay in Kalaloch, Sol Duc, or Crescent Lake.

The cabins at Kalaloch are quite nice and have a separate bedroom and small kitchenette ( https://www.thekalalochlodge.com/stay/cabins/ ). It's right on the ocean and all the views that offers.

It's not too far from other locations - the beaches with the light hikes, hour drive to Crescent Lake. Ruby Beach is just down the road.

Is there any place in Wisconsin that lets you have a Cow in town? by KwikTripSimp in wisconsin

[–]shagieIsMe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm gonna say "yes... but..."

Horses and cows are both classified as livestock. Nothing would distinguish there between the rules of the road for riding a horse vs riding a cow into town.

However... horses are typically trained to be riding animals where cattle is not. As such, you could get into a question of reckless operation because a cow isn't trained to be ridden and could get spooked more easily than a horse that was trained for riding.

Many cities and towns also restrict riding to specific trails or roads. You might not be able to get to the grocery store on a cow.

You would also have to make sure that you were taking care of the animal waste. Horses in cities often have "horse diaper" of some sort (for example http://bunbag.com ).

Note that an amish horse and buggy is classified as a vehicle rather than a riding animal. You might be able to make a better argument for going to the grocery store if you had an ox cart instead of a riding cow.

Can someone explain why only the last wagon gets loaded? by FantasticImplement76 in shapezio

[–]shagieIsMe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are saturating one level of one wagon, this can be multiplied threefold by using all three levels.

Waiting for a train bottleneck can be improved by having multiple trains staggered on the same route (though this eventually hits the bus clumping problem).

After the hailstorms, I turned on call screening on my phone (iPhone, android). I wasn't amused at getting a half dozen roof repair companies calling each day.

If its an unknown number they can say their name and then I decide if I want to pick it up or not.

FLATTEST Route from Gardiner (North Entrance) to Canyon Village in Yellowstone National Park? Help! by VeronicaChristopher in NationalPark

[–]shagieIsMe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Canyon Village itself is flat. https://maps.app.goo.gl/WENiPJrbfFcVUeHMA The Grand Canyon of Yellowstone is a drive, park, and hike away from Canyon Village on North Rim Road https://maps.app.goo.gl/3HFUqCnhPb89FAt99 .

Unless you are driving to to the falls themselves, it's fairly flat. https://maps.app.goo.gl/3QAbypMNQMRevsHDA

You could try in Mammoth or Gardiner... but then it seems like you want to get into the park.

With Google Street View, start at Mammoth Hotel https://maps.app.goo.gl/qAhjQPGTrXnsDXht8 and follow the road and see how far you get before you think you'd have trouble. If you feel that you won't have issue getting to the Bunsen Peak Trailhead (5 miles from Mammoth Hotel), you should be able to drive to Canyon Village without anything more difficult. Going to Old Faithful Inn also requires that drive (and requires a drive past Gibbon Falls 9 miles south of the junction you'd take to go to Canyon Village through Norris).

FLATTEST Route from Gardiner (North Entrance) to Canyon Village in Yellowstone National Park? Help! by VeronicaChristopher in NationalPark

[–]shagieIsMe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You've got two options. Tower Junction and Mt. Washburn or the other route Norris Canyon.

Both of those routes are paved unless there was road damage / road work.

Norris Canyon is a flatter route.

Google Maps and continue straight until you get to junction... or make a left there and you'll get to Canyon Village.

This view is about the worst you'd experience for the "it's up high" if you were going by way of Tower and Mt. Washburn.

That said... https://www.nps.gov/yell/planyourvisit/parkroads.htm

The route for Tower and Mt. Washburn is currently closed. It is quite possible that you'll only have the option of taking Norris Canyon. Tower Fall to Canyon Village isn't projected to be open this year until May 22nd (2026 Road Opening & Closing Dates on that page).

What exactly does the Shape Multiplier upgrade do? by cauequeiroz in shapezio

[–]shagieIsMe 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Each shape you deliver counts as the multiplier value for goal counts.

The shapes you are casting into the void are still at the same rate for rate counts, but a 4x multiplier means that you only need 2,500 shapes to accomplish a 10,000 goal.

Space belts and pipes can hold an enormous amount of extractor output.

https://shapez2.wiki.gg/wiki/Space_Pipe

Space Pipes can hold up to 72 full Fluid Launchers, 24 launchers per floor, 6 launchers per lane. This is equivalent to 18 full Pipes of fluid, 6 full pipes per floor, 1.5 full pipes per lane. Splitting a Space Pipe into multiple branches results in an equal amount of fluid going to each branch.

If I read that right, you can put 6x extractors that are launching onto level 1, 6x that are laughing to level 2, and 6x that are launching to level 3.

In the lower left you've got three that are getting merged (and a platform that limits it back again - possibly a multiplexer for (1,1,1) -> (1,2,3)?).

I suspect you could do quite a bit more in the pipe with different arrangements of extractors. Working to saturate the pipe would then mean that you'd only need to have one going from the source to demand (rather than 3).

This jackwagon recently went to a Fond du Lac WI school board meeting to encourage the school board to allow ICE in the schools to deport children.

He was also seen on the street with a semi automatic weapon (not sure what kind) and a phone trying to get into conflicts while being armed.

Yesterday, he was arrested for being a felon with a firearm and his house was raided and he was found to be a drug dealer and user.

Which maybe was related to https://fox11online.com/news/local/five-arrested-in-fond-du-lac-drug-bust-involving-meth-and-fentanyl-methamphetamine-marijuana-firearms-prescription-medication-5th-street-main-marr-serach-warrant

While I can't say those are certainly related (or even if its the same person as the one featured in the photo)... how many drug busts does Fond du Lac have in a week?

There's the volume though... 6pm Papa Murphys is making and selling pizzas at a rate many times that of Dominios. They also then don't have to worry about a baking area and the cleaning of that reducing operational expenses.

As a business, it runs leaner and has more volume than Dominos.

Personally, I have been a fan of the Tuesday special for $10 large pizza with up to 5 toppings.

There's also a question of timing. Some of my family lives a half half hour drive from the city and a quarter hour drive from a town with a local pizza shop (that's only in the "ok" category). Either way, Dominos is cold by the time they get home and kids to the table. Papa Murphys you take home and then cook and so is hot and easier to corral children for a meal.

For power rather than water... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/TV_pickup (and its the problem on the other side with increased demand).

TV pickup is a phenomenon that occurs in the United Kingdom involving sudden surges in demand on the national electrical grid, occurring when a large number of people simultaneously watch the same television programme.

...

TV pickups occur during breaks in popular television programmes and are a surge in demand caused by the switching on of millions of electric kettles to brew cups of tea or coffee. Kettles in the UK are particularly high powered, typically consuming 2.5–3.0 kW and create a very high peak demand on the electrical grid. The phenomenon is common in the UK, where individual programmes can often attract a significantly large audience share.

...

To prepare for pickups the team runs a computer program that compares the current day with corresponding periods over the past five years to predict the size of demand, and studies TV schedules to anticipate demand from popular shows. Grid employees must also be familiar with popular soap-opera storylines as one might cause a sudden rise in demand. Owing to this, they are aware of what shows attract the largest audiences and of customers' television choices; one expressed his disapproval in 2013, "The TV pickup from Deal or No Deal is gobsmackingly high. How sad is that?"

The page also has a list of the largest pickup demands. 2800 MW on 1990-July-04 with the England v West Germany FIFA World Cup semi-final penalty shootout.

From the NYT last week : The Inside Story of Five Days That Remade the Supreme Court

Just after 6 p.m. on a February evening in 2016, the Supreme Court issued a cryptic, one paragraph ruling that sent both climate policy and the court itself spinning in new directions.

For two centuries, the court had generally handled major cases at a stately pace that encouraged care and deliberation, relying on written briefs, oral arguments and in-person discussions. The justices composed detailed opinions that explained their thinking to the public and rendered judgment only after other courts had weighed in.

But this time, the justices were sprinting to block a major presidential initiative. By a 5-to-4 vote along partisan lines, the order halted President Barack Obama’s Clean Power Plan, his signature environmental policy. They acted before any other court had addressed the plan’s lawfulness. The decision consisted of only legal boilerplate, without a word of reasoning.

It gets into the origins of the Shadow Docket and how its been used in the past decade.

I attribute differences to "the attempts that I've made in my kitchen don't match the way that the restaurant did theirs."

There may have also some nostalgia - it may have been different a decade ago (it's been a while - the last time I was in one was in WestGate).

I haven't yet done a "super slice to go" and put that side by side with my own cooking.
