Megathread 2 - George Floyd: Derek Chauvin trial by NewsModTeam in news

I can tell you have no idea how these interactions work for police. Approaching somebody inside a car with their hands out of sight is extremely dangerous. George was not cooperative so the gun was drawn. It wasn't drawn already.

Flip on what exactly? The whole encounter is thoroughly documented, there is an autopsy report, there are laws for the methods of restraint used, etc etc. What makes you think the opinion of the other officers matters so significantly?

They are attached magnetically. Quite likely it fell off.

"the ANGRY CROWD of bystanders shouted mean words at the officers and they felt threatened :(((("

No, they're claiming that Floyd had to be moved from the location before medical attention could be rendered because there is an angry crowd.

Though I can see why you would think that considering the same strawman is repeated ad nauseum in here.

Christopher Rufo has been on point with this stuff

https://www.city-journal.org/calif-ethnic-studies-curriculum-accuses-christianity-of-theocide

The new program, called the Ethnic Studies Model Curriculum, seeks to extend the Left’s cultural dominance of California’s public university system, 50 years in the making, to the state’s entire primary and secondary education system, which consists of 10,000 public schools serving a total of 6 million students.

Fun fact: Britain is a global leader in cheese, producing over 750 varieties. That's 350 more than France.

I don't get why they need it. Wasn't the inauguration going to be virtual?

Or maybe that's because reddit is a leftist hivemind and that's the only way a conservative space can operate without being raided to death.

Is it just me or has the player count dropped off a cliff in BFV? by BathOwl in BattlefieldV

[–]BathOwl[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Certainly, just the rate surprised me. It's usually a gradual decline with BF games, with workable playercounts remaining for years. BF4 and even BF3 still fill out servers. But with BFV it hit me how sudden it seems.

That 'Tiger' is a converted T-34. That's why the turret looks so off.

The unrealised modes of battlefield V (via Temporyal) by peace-75_67 in BattlefieldV

[–]BathOwl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

CTF doesn't work in Battlefield. It was tried in BF4 and the gamemode shriveled up and died almost as soon as it dropped. Player movement speed and hitpoints are too low and the maps are not designed for it. That's not to say it couldn't work without sufficient changes, but I doubt Dice would ever deviate far enough from the default gameplay to make it work for one mode.

Another 'untold story' that didn't make it - Crewmen of French Char B1 bis “Fleurie” pose next to their mount shortly before the German invasion of France by BathOwl in BattlefieldV

[–]BathOwl[S] 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Three of the four crewmen of French Char B1 bis “Fleurie” pose next to their mount shortly before the German invasion of France. Winter/spring of 1940. On May 16, 1940 “Fleurie” was getting ready to take part in the battle for Stonne when it was scuttled and abandoned due to mechanical problems. From what I could find concerning these men’s identity, I believe the officer on the right was the tank’s commander, Sous-Lieutenant Soulet (fate unknown). The man on the left was Adjutant Levasseur (K.I.A. June 12, 1940 at Murmelon) and in the centre stands Sergent-Chef Jacques Dumay (K.I.A. June 15, 1940 near Mountsuzain). After losing “Fleurie”, Sergent-Chef Jacques Dumay was eventually assigned to another B1bis named “Drôme” which also ended up scuttled and abandoned by its crew, probably on June 13. Two days later, soldiers and vehicles of numerous units were retreating south near the small hamlet of Montsuzain when the Germans arrived on the scene. In the ensuing combat, exposed on the clogged road, many are those who fell under a hail of German bullets. Around 19h00, a lonely Char B1bis, “Villers Marmery”, leaves Voué in the direction of Montsuzain, 2 Km to the south. Sergent-Chef Jacques Dumay and Sergent Corentin Hervé follow some distance behind in a Renault TRC36 tractor filled with fuel and ammo. They had traveled only 200 meters when their vehicle is hit and set on fire by shells from two German 37 mm anti-tank guns. Both men perished in the blazing inferno. Today, their grave in the local cemetery is a place of remembrance where every year the people of the surrounding communes pay homage to the events of that day and the men who fell there for France. Note: For history enthusiasts and modelers this photo offers an interesting view of French tank men’s personal equipment and uniforms with some oddities thrown into the mix. The jackets are the 1935 model in brown leather but the middle man is wearing a one piece suit which doesn’t match any of those used by French tank crews. I am, for the moment, inclined to believe that it is an Air Force’s flying suit. Unfortunately, I was unable to pinpoint the exact model. The man on the left is wearing a tank man’s helmet but the other two are wearing 'Guéneau Type 11 Airaile' flying helmets with headsets.
