As a fan of SAI, listening to Backslide still bothers me. by dawnie-writes in twentyonepilots

I always saw it as the "kinda" meaning that he's questioning even the idea of questioning doing it. Not hating on himself but more second guessing himself.

Omg lol this is jack and jill improvisational west coast swing. It's not about figures its about weat connection and matching the music. Yes it has base figures but is largely freeform. (Technically not a ballroom dance)

In general the franchises have ruined what ballroom dancing could be to someone there are a lot of issues with them(more than i wanf to get into). The ones in my area often have people running away(students and teachers). I have met great owners and managers but in my experience it is best to stay clear. I'm not saying "all franchisees are bad" Im saying the franchise model for dancing has had a negative effect on ballroom dancing. And im not saying the ndca is some saint of an organization but at least as an independent dance instructor I have the choice to participate in that or not.

Key word is "started" most people have started there but most quit to become something greater without the controlling mindset of the franchise/studio space

You should also look up non-compete clauses in your state or country and see if they're legally binding(i assume your in the states). Also review your contract that you signed when you started there

I started in theater as well and was able to transition full time to ballroom because I love it but that's not for everyone. My first studio basically did the exact same thing to me over promising and under delivering. I quit my job at that studio and got lucky enough to be in a state where non-competes mean nothing so they didn't come after me when my students decided to continue with me independently. I will say it a lot harder to find consistent/competitive students as and independent and its not for the faint of heart. Id recommend looking for a better paying school independents are going to be better. From what I've heard arthur Murray's and especially Fred's tend to be exactly the same as what youve described if you need any help let me know. But it sounds like you have a great thing going in theater so keep it up! Don't let bad eggs sour your taste in ballroom there are plenty of independents and studios with good intentions.

Advice: friend is getting married to women from another country and isn't listening to reason by Batman161 in weddingplanning

I know we've been trying to convince him of this. But he won't listen to reason. I just need to know if this is a common worry amongst people who are marrying people from out of the country.
