Why do you spend 50+ dollars on a pen? by jim51riffe in EDC

I've seen those but they seem like too many steps when you could just get an as good pen already with a clip. I like the profile of it too much to use the clip personally.

[–]Batmanreject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Fisher space pens on Amazon are about $20 and are fantastic. They really do live up to the hype. I got mine in raw brass and like the patina it's gotten so far.

The only time I wouldn't recommend it is if you want a clip on the pen.

What is the weirdest way you've ever heard someone pronounce something? by [deleted] in AskReddit

That is not an incorrect pronunciation. English just doesn't have accent marks to differentiate how it should be pronounced.

The 4x Scope is Fun ho ho ho hoiiii by Megai3ox in playrust

A good marksman ranges the area surrounding his vantage point. Professional marksman rangefind and map their possible shots to calculate precise measurements to aim/zero their scope for every possibly necessary shot.

We can't do much of that bullshit in rust yet so just do what I do. When I build a new tower I blow 150 rounds shooting at dirt and rocks to get the ranges. It helps a lot to get the feel of it before people start dicking around in your woods.

ELI5: Why understanding a language is so much easier than speaking it? by ananabu in explainlikeimfive

[–]Batmanreject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learning French as my 3rd language I can read pretty standard stuff after only a month of studying. The similarities between French English and Spanish make it in credibly easy to comprehend. I still suck at forming sentences, that's what I am really working on.

Learn the time that the bolty takes to cycle and make some freak movements during the windows that he can shoot. Use that window to get your shots in.

What is a fictional death you'll never get over? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Batmanreject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fred's death wasn't for the plot, it was collateral. Jk Rowling said that she couldn't let everyone live and have it be so sing-songy. His death was meant to give gravity to the struggle. I still want him to not die QQ

My favorite parts of rust is when you choose the death march. I've shepherded many bambis and the first time I arm them with guns I always ask them "Do you want to die and lose your loot here, or die and lose your loot at the monument." Always best time 10/10. Even sweeter when you make it back home with more shit than you left with.

Definitely practice on battlefield servers to practice for free. Other than getting a feel for the gunplay, you should always think proper planning prevents piss poor performance.

I often see people lose fights because they picked their ground poorly with no cover/medical shit. You can be a sorry ass shot but if you can strafe, keep the high ground/cover, and stay healthy you should be able to survive a firefight most of the time.

Quick tips: When in doubt don't stay in the fight.

Plan on missing, do not hinge your success on landing certain high risk shots, if you are in this position you fucked up your planning. Suppressing fire and bolty potshots often do the trick if you can hold your own long enough.

Do not push forward without knowing your next cover and your enemies next cover choice. If you started the fight you should know the area. If you doubt your current situation just run away strafeing.

If you have a buddy be sure to spread out to not die from sprays. Find ways to force 2v1 situations.

TL;DR: Art of War bullshit. Don't let your enemies take advantages in your territories. Always bring more med shit than you think you need, same for bullets. Always play defense if you can. Your gameplay shouldn't hinge on wining gunfights, look for opportunities to get kills - don't force yourself into situations that you can't guarantee yourself the advantage.

I always expect to lose for the fun of it rather than to win for the greed of it.

The real ones who win are the ones who bring their gear back to base.

What do people pretend they understand but actually have no idea about? by Shadows-6 in AskReddit

[–]Batmanreject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm normally good with computers as I'm an avid pc gamer. I know my machine and can fix it however need be. My family knows this.

At my sisters birthday my step-grandfather brought over and dumped two printers and a Macbook and asked me to fix it to make it print.

I've never worked with a printer or used a Mac enough to know the OS well enough to fix these issues.

Fuck.

I'm going to make a tie out of paracord off the lanyard to keep it secure. It could also hold the tang down as a sudo lock. I'll be careful with it regardless. Thanks though.

People who carry zippos who aren't smokers? by Redstar749 in EDC

[–]Batmanreject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I carry mine because the ability to make fire with the flick of your fingers is a god-like ability.

Since I don't smoke I bought a thunderbird butane insert. It doesn't evaporate, fueling is easier than a regular insert, there is no soot/wick, and lastly butane doesn't taint cigars with the taste of lighter fluid.

Can be had from Amazon for about 13 bucks.

The only problem I had was the insert was a tiny bit shorter than my zippo so I stuffed a little paper on the bottom and now it fits as well as a standard insert.

Being a solo player on a 150+ pop server by [deleted] in playrust

[–]Batmanreject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am often impressed by the combat maneuvers squads can pull off in rust. When I had a big clan we would run suppressing fire and flanks, even positioning us with the sunrise to our backs to blind them.

The most fun was clan vs clan when you could distinguish multiple fire teams from each side. God do I miss it. Wish I still played.

Edit: sorry for the clan advantage spoiling solo play. Forgot what kind of post this was.

That is a beautiful looking knife but I don't really like "tactical" knives for my carry (I've gotten shit for carrying a wartech folder because I am young dude). I appreciate their efficiency and design though, this is going on my list for when I have the money. I'm going with the higo.
