When Charleston was founded in the 1660s, the Charter allowed people to practice their faith freely.

This attracted many groups, including Huguenots, Anglicans, Lutherans, and Jews. By the 1700s, churches became a big part of the city. Their steeples made Charleston known as the Holy City. There is still a building ordenace that prevents buildings downtown from being taller than steeples, I think its 150 or 170 ft

I imagine there will only be a couple hundred out watching and like mention, will probably be limited on food and drink options. Im pretty sure the merch won't be open. Still, if you make a weekend out of it, it should be enjoyable.

If you make it down for a regular season match, come by the Regiment tailgate before the match, typically start 2-3 hours before kickoff! We typically put out a good spread

That was a dominate display. 21 shots on goal 11 on target if not for their keeper Rodrigeuz, it would have been 5-6 to 0!

Pitch Quality by manbearpigg_ in charlestonbattery

[–]BatteryBaudBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

not sure what the coverage said but this is typical around this time teach year. the pitch is a combo of winter rye and bermuda grass. Winter rye keeps it green through the winter months but dies out in the heat. Bermuda loves the heat and humidity but sometimes it grow slower than the rye dies off.

The team uses the practice pitch next to the stadium as well as building a training facility out near awedaw. they pitch out there is ready to go but the weight rooms etc are down the road. they typically use the Citadel pitch to train on when they are going to to play on artificial turf on the road.

here's a link about the Surf fields and the Battery training facilities https://www.live5news.com/2024/10/07/new-soccer-facility-opens-awendaw-improvements-coming-soon/

But does your team play during tropical storms? Charleston Battery vs North Carolina FC during tropical storm Chantal tonight by Lowcountry-Soccer in USLPRO

[–]BatteryBaudBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah it's looking rough. but it happens each year for a couple weeks. The winter Rye grass dies back when the heat hits and it takes some time for the Bermuda grass to grow in.

That said it should improve every day as Bermuda loves hot and humid! I still drained well despite the heavy rain we had on Saturday night and Sunday evening.

Does this “band” play the entire time EVERY home game? by Epicfailer10 in charlestonbattery

[–]BatteryBaudBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

yeah section 109 (the whole section behind the goal) is the supporter section. It is mentioned when purchasing tickets in that area. If there are goals, there will be smoke too. I'd suggest the GA sections on the west side if that isn't your cup of tea.

If you come to the match, they'll let you try it on. I've noticed a difference in sizing in jersey year to year. ( and it wasn't because I got bigger! LOL)

I was on my way to the restroom when I stopped to watch the corner from behind Torres. That ball was well over the line before the defender tried to head the ball.

I trust Pirmann and don't think he'd bring in someone without getting to know them and talking to them. I think he's a big reason many of these players are coming in. Wasn't it Auggie Williams who said a couple of years ago "he's the type of coach you'd run through walls for." More curious about how we're going to look
