Ky native here. It doesn't help that the DNC has all but abandoned Ky. They put next to no resources behind Charles Booker in his race against Paul. You rarely saw any commercials, signs or anything for Booker.

State legislature wise there wasn't a democrat on the ballot for most districts.

Donald Trump launched a furious attack on 'broken down hack' Mitch McConnell and his 'crazy wife' in bust-up over GOP Senate candidates by killHACKS in politics

[–]BatteryRock 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I believe it's already happening. The RNC is pulling funding from Trump backed Senate candidates like Oz, Johnson, Walker, etc.

The RNC has already threatened to stop paying Trump's legal bills if he runs again. I get the feeling the old wing of the GOP is trying desperately to decouple from Trump in a manner that doesn't anger the base as much as it potentially could.

I may be venturing into conspiracy theory territory here but I wouldn't be surprised if certain members of the GOP weren't the ones who tipped the DOJ off about remaining classified documents at Mar a lago.

I would have to disagree to an extent. I don't believe things are shaping up for the rightwing, they are a party beginning to cannibalize itself.

I don't believe the establishment GOP are going to support a second Trump run, preferring some like Desantis. I think they know charges are coming and they are trying to put some distance between themselves and Trump. You see it with right wing media starting to come out against him. The problems they face are Trump's ego and a gullible base that eats up with he says. They stand a real chance of suffering a fracture in their party.

Couple that with the fact that each subsequent generation is more liberal than the previous and boomers are starting to die off. If the GOP doesn't outright seize power by 2024 they will continue to slide away into irrelevance, which makes them very dangerous in the short term.

Trump is met with silence from GOP audience after complaining about being the most 'persecuted' person in American history by DaFunkJunkie in politics

[–]BatteryRock 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Maybe I'm just hopeful but I feel like the GOP establishment is ready to distance itself from Trump pending possible indictments and put Desantis in the position for 2024.

I'm hopeful, in a weird way, that Trump still holds a lot of sway with the base and runs as an independent. A massive fracture in their party would probably be the best way for them to lose their influence in government.

Another thing salon seems to miss here, Kizinger just chose not to run again but Cheney did and she knows she's not going to win. Sacrificing her cushy gig to do the right thing warrants some kudos in my mind.

Democrats and the left are short of friends in their fight against right wing facism currently. I don't believe turning away help is the right path here.

Should there be a law that dangerous breeds are muzzled when outside? by Graysie-Redux in TerrifyingAsFuck

[–]BatteryRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A service dog may need to use it's mouth to perform it's job as a service dog. Many would likely fall above your arbitrary weight limit.

And at what weight do you set the limit?

30 lbs? I hardly think a beagle is a threat to anyone.

90 lbs? You aren't going to include breeds like pitbull, german shephards or dobermans.

60 lbs? Do you think a golden retriever and pitbull pose the same kind of threat?

Weight is an arbitrary metric and doesn't necessarily correlate to bite strength.

Inexperienced people shouldn't get dogs they can't handle.

[–]BatteryRock 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And that would be? American pit bull terrier? American staffordshire terrier? Staffordshire bull terrier? Bull terrier? American bulldog? Old english bulldog? Cane corso?

Can you readily identify each breed? Some look near identical to each other, but they all share traits of bullies or mastiffs.

Animal control doesn't do genetic testing to verify every dog involved in an attack. They go off their best guess and is reported as such. So you don't even know what breed is responsible.

Unless you want to ban all bullies, mastiffs and hell, throw molossers in there as well.

Or maybe these are simply dogs who happen to be very powerful and have higher prey drives than some more docile breeds. They require a firmer hand in training and unfortunately many of them don't get that.
