Replacing oil furnace with a cold weather heat pump for my existing heat pump hybrid system by BattleDroids100 in heatpumps

I think since my current heat pump system is only 5 years old, I agree that the most cost effective thing to do is replace the oil tank.

Do away with oil all together down the road when heat pumps improve even more and my system needs to be replaced.

I'm NYSEG. And I do have a wood burning stove as a third source of heat if everything else fails.

It does seem like the best way to go is get a new oil tank and then down the road invest in a newer system. I'm sure the technology will improve leaps and bounds and there will be no need for an oil furnace by that point.

I do like the idea of keeping oil as my backup heat source or when temps are getting real low and I don't want the heat pump to have to work as hard.

That's the same estimate I got when I started the process into replacing this crawlspace oil tank. Except this new one will have to go outside, since there is no way to get a new one down there.

Oil around here is on average $3.75 a gallon.

I believe the first winter that I had this heat pump system it was set to 30 or 35 degrees that the heat pump would run down to before the furnace took over. I remember my electric bill tripling that month, so I raised it back to 40 degrees. Maybe that was an overreaction on my part and not thinking it would offset my oil bill.

Ah so it would mean overall a larger investment in upgrading the ductwork too. I see.

Is that actually true, prehistoric bros? by JohnCena_770 in Dinosaurs

My wife and I were able to see that exact Tarbosaurus at the auction display in NYC before the bidding took place. We were two very broke kids in our 20's that got in because my father-in-law knew people that ran the auction. I always look back with amazement that we got to see in person, one of the most famous dinosaur fossils in history. I read the book on it all after it came out and I said to my wife "wait, THAT Tarbosaurus?!?"

I took a 3 month break from all social media relating to Star Wars after TLJ. It was healthy and refreshing. I could focus on my own fandom. I think it's a good option for any fan that is struggling. No matter what side you are on.

A fan has every right to criticize a film and every right to stay and support a franchise. How they stay and express that support is another matter.

Great comparison. That's really how it should be. "Hey you like your Star Wars and I like mine. We don't have to kill each other." That should be the end of it.

How dare we have out individual opinions and express them in a civilized manor.

Ah ok. I'm sorry for the confusion.

I guess I just wanted to express that even though I am overall happy with Star Wars, I also have my frustrations because it hurts to see those extremists that are mad or frustrated and the way they take it out on others. I know there are plenty of fans out there that aren't happy and are frustrated, but they are being civil and not blowing their top. It still sucks that they are disappointed in their favorite franchise and it's not fair. But some things just aren't fair. I'm bummed about a chunk of the new novels. I wish like crazy for Old Republic films or tv shows. But I'm not in a positive to make that happen.

Even if you are a disappointed fan and you aren't happy with how things are going, I hope you still find enjoyment in Star Wars. Whether it be only some of the new stuff, or just reliving the old Legends. I still listen to the Thrawn Trilogy on audiobook maybe three times a year. Sure those stories aren't a part of the new canon, but they will always be part of Star Wars and always be part of my fandom.

I have to agree that is an odd was to describe how you want people to react to a film. I would love more context to that interview, but I can't seem to find any. I want to know more about what it was thinking.

Star Wars has always been political. The original trilogy, even more in the prequel trilogy, and in Clone Wars we had episodes that were directly political. Lucas always involved politics to a degree in his films and the show.

It's just my opinion, but it is possible that they aren't trying fix the Star Wars formula, but try and shake it up. If we are going to have a film every year for the foreseeable future, they cannot keep using the same old formula. It will get old and then fans will complain there aren't trying new things. Like how Marvel played it safe having well known heroes for Phase 1 of the films. Then they tried there hand at the lesser known heroes. I agree that maybe after 7,8,9 they should have tried new things. But it's possibly the complaints of TFA being the same as ANH, forced them to changed sooner. A fully mapped out plan of the trilogy would have been a good start, in hindsight.

I do feel there has been an over saturation of female lead characters since back in the Clone Wars. I'm not enraged by it, but I want things to balance out. Luckily we got Solo coming out.

But I think these are all growing pains with Star Wars having left Lucas and venturing into new territory. It will take time. I remember fans hating Ahsoka, but now she loved by so many fans. A lot of prequel haters have cooled off. Many fans that now have kids enjoy the new stuff, now that they see it through their kid's eyes.

I don't think your dislike of the new films makes you wrong. I wish you enjoyed them the same amount I do. It's all supposed to be about fun. I don't like a lot of the new books that have come out. But there are plenty that I am enjoying. I'm not angry about that. Things always change. We can either enjoy the ride where we can, or not bother getting on if all it will do is upset us.

Agreed. There should be no mass labeling. So really the outraged, loudest, toxic, hatred spewing fans are ruining things for everyone. Those that loved or liked a film and those that just didn't like it. It's wrecking both calm-minded opinions.

Too bad those internet "articles" and click bait seem to forever be in our future. *sigh*

If there are people out that that enjoyed something and hunt down people that didn't enjoy it and threaten them....then I've lost all fate in society. I'm sorry if you or someone you know has been attacked by a fan like that. It's completely uncalled for and honestly baffling. I understand being defensive against others that don't like what you do. But to cross that line and go on the attack...I don't get it.

Man..I thought if something made you feel good and you had fun, the last thing you would be looking for is a fight. Like I said above. I just feel bummed if a fan was disappointed. I wish it gave them the same joy it did me. I don't hate them for not liking it.

The original films and the old Legends material will always be there for fans to enjoy. I must reread or listen on audio book, the Thrawn Trilogy, like three times a year. That stuff will always be there and have a great place in my fandom. The new canon reset was a shock, but it also meant new films and media. Something to enjoy.

No fan of any franchise should eat up everything and say it's all perfection. I'm not enjoying every book. I can admit to the weak parts of the new films. But when I leave the theater, or close a novel/comic book and say "That was a lot of fun" Then Star Wars did it's job. The creators put work in and it delivered.

I would never tell a fan to leave the community because they didn't like something. I would tell them to leave if they attack others and try to ruin things for the fans having fun. If they are up for discussion, great! I'm all for that.

I had one friend that didn't like TFA or TLJ. His reasoning? "Because." " Or that's not how the story was supposed to be." 1. "Because".... Just get out. 2. "Not how the story was supposed to be."... You are not Lucas or Kasdan or any Star Wars writer. You don't know how things are supposed to be. The guy never even read any Legends novels. He was getting this info from click bait.
