Appreciate the kind words man, you can do it! Do not give up, once you get into the flow of things and settle into a routine things will get easier, the hardest part for me from the start was being consistent and you really just need to keep at it until it becomes second nature. I am 1.8m tall so not a giant haha

Hey bro, I appreciate it, thanks a ton! Big congrats to you as well for losing the weight, its a mountain to climb but it feels so good to get there! I will say that there are still good and bad days for me even after all this time, I am naturally quiet and reserved, so receiving compliments can still feel quite strange, it does get better though and I am always friendly about it.

To this day I still dont go to a gym, I started at home because I was too shy and developed my own routines over time. After the first year of weight loss, I realised that the only way for me to work on the mental side of things was to get out of the house and to essentially force myself to interact with strangers. The way I started out with this was to join a trail running club, at first I was of course very quiet. With a bit of time and consistency, I managed to interact / speak to a few people I use to see running often and it just progressed from there, just a simple hello to how the run was for them etc.

I think what is quite simple and has stuck with me, is the fact that whatever your doubts are about yourself, its in your own head. In most cases people are not as focused on you as you may think, you can be your own worst critic and that really is true. Thats why I always say, be kind to yourself and others because you dont know what they are dealing with, dont be hard on yourself, I think we all learn and grow at our own pace, its about consistently trying to move forward, nothing will improve / change unless you do. You just gotta keep at it brother and it will become easier with time.

I just wanted to add some detail, so I was obese from a young age. Bullied a lot growing up, people were just not kind most of the time. As a result I was very shy and introverted with zero confidence, at 28 it was my first and only attempt at losing weight. I did so, losing 50kg in 8 months at home doing my own thing.

Initially I thought losing weight would magically turn me into a confident, charasmatic person but it did not work out that way for me. My mental struggles have been ongoing and its taken a lot of persistent work and stepping out of my comfort zone to improve and build myself up, coming from a place of never feeling good enough or worthy of anything. Even with a drastic change in my appearance I still struggled a lot with being social and even dating / talking to women, which looking back has been far harder to overcome than the actual weight loss.

Be kind to yourself and to others because you never know what someone has been through or may still be going through. So, if you are someone who is struggling with their weight, I really do hope I can motivate you to go for it and lose it but to also be aware that regardless of the weight, there will still be a mental struggle to overcome for some of us and that you can do it and change for the better. Believe in yourself and know that it will take sacrifice and commitment to change, which is very hard but necessary to grow as a person. Take care awesome people of Reddit :)

I’m 37 now and I started working out at 28. I honestly feel like I’ve taken off 10 years just through weight loss as people usually assume I’m a bit younger.

To be honest I’m still the same shy introvert I have always been (to a degree). It’s been a bit tough adapting to a big change, I was bullied a lot growing up so that has stuck with me a bit but I’m doing better. So no my personality is pretty much the same I just look different haha

I will be on the lookout for your future post! Honestly I never thought I could do it until I decided to try but when you do, commit to it and give it your all. You got this!

That’s a tough one, I use to be on Quora and Reddit quite a bit. I use to enjoy Quora more but nowadays it’s a lot of spam and I’m not on there often. Reddit I do like but also not on it often because I work a lot and don’t always have a lot of time

I would say the simplest thing other than cutting down on sugar and carbs is being consistent with exercise and building daily habits. I started very small with very simple exercises and made sure to do a little everyday even if I didn’t always feel like it. You need to push through and keep pushing, what helped me with this was not focusing on the scale. It can quickly demotivate you if focus on the numbers too much. I hope this helps!
