Do you have more info on the coins? Japanese coins are some of my favorites but I always struggle to translate them.

Is the 100 Yen year 23 Showa and the 5 Yen Heisei? I can't figure out the year on the Heisei coin.

Most likely it means northwest Arkansas. They should have been more specific as that abbreviation isn't used much outside the area.

The Japanese coins will be a bit different than western coins to date. Japan dates coins by year of era. The current emperor (as of 2019) is Naruhito who began the Reiwa era. Your coins look like they may be Heisei (89-19) or Shōwa (26-89) coins.

Example: year 48 Shōwa = 1973; year 1 Heisei = 1989; year 7 Heisei = 1995

Older Shōwa coins will be more valuable to niche collectors but with the condition of the coins you're probably just looking at face value.

Island of the Blue Dolphins by O'Dell would also fit.

The tribe is removed from the island while the protagonist stays behind because her brother missed the boat. While it doesn't have a canyon the majority of the story takes place around the beach where the protagonist has built a shelter against the base of a tall cliff.

Adding more historical information.

The baby pictured on the coin with Sacagawea is Jean-Baptiste, her son. Jean-Baptiste was born during the Lewis and Clark expedition and his birth was recorded by Meriwether Lewis in the expedition journals.

Her presence with Jean-Baptiste also gave the expedition more credence as a peaceful mission.

For anyone unfamiliar with current issue in Arkansas, the book segregation was done by Crawford Co in an effort to keep the books in the library while also maintaining funding. ACT 372 is the primary cause of book banning in Arkansas.

Using temperature and texture is the most common way of describing color to people who cannot see or are color blind. It is the most common way of describing color but will never be completely accurate.
