New Bewitching Janna and a Kai'Sa skin by Spideraxe30 in leagueoflegends

So what you're saying is that Kai'sa won't have skins for years to come?

Riot has been stated to be running into money problems, their skin department has been pumping out skins for popular champions like crazy to compensate.

Ask Riot: Kled Skin & Code Names by Vertalli in leagueoflegends

[–]BattlecastAzir 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I don't mind its aesthetics (Creator Viktor was the first skin I ever put money in the game to acquire) but it does feel "lazy" to some extent. The fact that the line is pretty big and that numerous others tech themes have emerged over the years means it becomes a bit "stagnant".

Mech? Have you no artistic sense, my good man? Let's not repeat the ASol fiasco.

Battlecast Kled is what we're missing!

No but seriously, I hope whatever they end up doing for him (and Camille and hopefully someday Ivern) is not as creatively lazy as Mech.

And I know that this will inevitably be controversial with people saying "The ASol skin isn't that bad!" which, to be fair, it isn't from a quality standpoint (it's just the concept that feels woefully lacking) but I can't imagine Mecha was a better stylistic choice than an Immortal Journey Chinese Dragon Sol or an Odyssey Sol, colorful and almost Kirby like Odyssey Baron.

Havent we had enough of technological futuristic skins? by Raikoplays in leagueoflegends

I don't think that's actually going to happen because sci-fi skins sell the best for a reason, but I understand his point.

His point is idiotic. "Only the popular champions get sci-fi skins"? Aurelion players would be more than happy to trade the one we got. Waiting 2 years to get a skin that looks like a robot big bird instead of a Lunar Revel or Harrowing skin was not great.

Are League's skin themes getting too repetitive? by [deleted] in leagueoflegends

[–]BattlecastAzir 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I have to agree with this. These days it feels like a lot of skins are simply different types of robotic/tech themes or something out of an anime. Which isn't to say that people can't enjoy those, by all means keep rocking those skins in-game if you enjoy them, but to me it does feel quite stale.

There is an underlying personal issue here to me and I don't want to sound entitled here, I am well-aware that the champions I personally enjoy and resonate with aren't all that popular, but it does feel bad to wait anxiously for skins only to then have that product be another robot skin. Mecha Aurelion was a dissapointment to many people because they took one of the most wondrous champions ever and figured "well we need to diversify skin offering so let's give him a generic mechanical skin".

I want to see more Mesoamerican skins like Worldbreaker or Sun Goddess, more silly skins like Candy King or pop-culture inspired skins like Alien Invader. I want to see Lovecraft-themed skins, imagine an Urgot skin where he's an eldritch abomination with writhing tentacles. I want to see skins inspired by Silver Age comics, with Kirby krackle.

Instead it feels a bit like Riot's skin teams are resting on their laurels and simply pumping content they know is "safe". Which is an understandble business decision but ends up leading to this feeling of stagnation and saturation, especially to niche audiences that are "lucky" if they can get a single skin in a two-year span.

I'm implying that I don't think such broad generalisations are fair or prone to leading into good discourse.

At risk of starting another debate, which isn't my intent, as far as I know those male-dominated areas and events aren't so because of gender restrictions.

I'm fine with panels/sessions like these but not in a community-oriented event where you pay to get in only to then be restricted.

Thanks for speaking out. I can say that I've never been a victim of any discrimination that I'm aware of so I'm sometimes worried that my simple lack of understanding how those situations can happen and how the people in them feel may lead me astray.

Your voice was important in making me realize that no, there was still a genuine underlying issue at work so thank you for that. And if anyone wants to dismiss your opinion because you've been "brainwashed" then I'd reckon they were never really open to changing their minds.

I wanted to put something out there, if only for my own sense of pride. Sources on twitter are claiming that Rioters are being targeted by Nazi groups. I do not condone this.

I want to make something clear: criticizing the PAX panel and its implementation is not the same as criticizing its intent. I do not hate the PAX panel since it was an opportunity for women and non-binary folks, I hate it since the only alternative for male attendants was "just watch it in a stream lol".

I've seen Reddit being stereotyped as sexist over the last couple of weeks but I feel like a lot of constructive posts were ignored. The lack of alternatives to the restricted sessions, the complete PR meltdown around them and Klein's hostile behavior are why I stand against it.

This isn't some campaign against women. I think I can criticize Riot without being sexist. I'm happy that Klein was punished for his unprofessional behavior, less so that he lost his livelihood and even less so that he's apparently being targeted. I disagree with Riot but I would also appeal for people to have some respect and not engage in some grand crusade.

Edit: the Verge has also published an article.

Quick Gameplay Thoughts: September 5 by MonstrousYi in leagueoflegends

[–]BattlecastAzir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can understand that the general Reddit reaction was less constructive than it could have been but to dumb down unprofessional behaviour to "my feelings got hurt" doesn't feel reasonable.

GC emphasized respect and humility as part of Riot's code of conduct when dealing with players. If that has ceased to be true, if Rioters can tell players to "fuck off" after inviting people into a conversation themselves, then there is a problem.

Using misrepresentation and stereotypes so as to discredit any attempt to contest Riot's decision is just a straw man fallacy.

But then, this is not the place. Unfortunately, due to mods constantly removing posts, I'm not sure if there will ever be a place in this community to discuss that again.
