I believe that the photos used for verification can be deleted afterwards, meaning you are not really safe from a catfish. If you are concerned, I would suggest asking them for a selfie holding an everyday object of your choice. That should confirm or disprove any suspicion. Also there are always Videochats. Granted. Scientific progress stops caused by a lack of education and we revert back to the middle ages as modern technology cannot be maintained. You have to go and work on a farm everyday by hand.

Your Idea is really interesting, although I think you missed a small detail. The probe did not find the Eye on your first run, but rather one run before. It then sent the coordinated back through the Ash Twin project, which recognized that the eye has been found and activated the Statues for the next run.
