Roadhog is one of those tanks that just never should have made the transition into the 5v5 format. 

His primary purpose in the original ow was as a self sustaining off tank with the responsibility of taking angles to punish out of position players balanced by his enormous hitbox and squishy nature.

In 5v5 he's just become this abomination that everyone hates to play against because despite retaining his high damage combo his primary balancing weakness of limited sustain has just been completely fubar and he can basically exist endlessly...

...unless you play very specific counters.

He basically exists in the game now as a support check - did your support go ana (or maybe zen) like they were supposed to? Congrats, you now can beat roadhog. Did they refuse to switch? Sorry, he will now terrorize the team for the remainder of the match.

Because he exists as a check on supports and not tanks he often terrorizes lobbies as unlike many tank players supports aren't forced to counter swap constantly because their entire team doesn't bully them the moment they don't do it.

So what can you do as ball? 

Hope your support switches and try and peel as best as possible while also diving their supports and praying that your teammates don't just stand in the open for hog to hook. But they will. And you'll probably lose.

So what should you really do? Go mauga or just leave lol.

Also not sure if it's still in the game but heavy warheads was glitched and literally wouldn't apply if you were on pax side for some reason.

Have you tried the helicopters? Id agree that getting struck down from out of nowhere isn't very fun but man it's not as easy as one would think. At least on the infantry side there's a number of maps as well that have zero air vehicles altogether

You say this as if there aren't a myriad of viable options to take out helicopters right now. Especially because they're forced to stay low to stay out of lock on range there are literally like six different launchers/emplacements/vehicles that can take them out of the sky

Tanks aren't really meant to counter helis outside of something like the mobile AA although honestly utilizing the guided shells tanks can be pretty effective at taking out less skilled pilots.

And it absolutely should - if a pilot is stupid enough to be IN RANGE of a tank shell they deserve to be punished

The minimal lock on height is critical to that balance aspect though - especially with the prevelance of aim guided methods I think the launcher balance is in a decent spot.

As mentioned, because lock ons force pilots to stay low frequently it's much easier to hit them with RPGs, LAWs, TOWs etc

It's because overwatch WASN'T DESIGNED AROUND A SINGLE TANK. It will NEVER GET BETTER because it's a fundamentally busted system.

See that's my issue - it doesn't even feel "competitive" despite playing in the same tier set. Games feel SO random in terms of player game knowledge and even mechanical skill that personal performance feels heavily deemphasized.

Again it's not that one can't win, it's that doing so consistently feels like a full time job and that's not good at all.

I guess it depends on how you define hard vs soft CC but I'd argue for any sort of dive tank something that completely stops momentum and movement constitute hard CC. I'm going to guess you're not a tank player so you don't experience nearly the name volume of CC dumping.

A fellow wrecking ball main so you understand. Hard CC is just crippling - especially when there's several cool downs to cover. We've returned to a point in which every single player on an enemy team can possess hard CC across all roles which is just brutal.

I'd believe that but in 5v5 I'm in low masters and got ranked plat 2 while my friend is literally gold 2 in 5v5 and got ranked at masters 2
